USB ports on the BASE of my HP Omnistudio All-in-One computer do not work, and have not worked since day one...I have only had this computer for 2-3 months now. USB ports attached directly to the computer all work fine.
Any good ideas would be appreciated.

Hi @jason789
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
I understand how disappointing it feels when the base USB ports never respond, especially since the main system ports are working fine. You’ve already observed the difference clearly, which helps us focus on the right checks.
Let’s go through a structured set of steps to isolate and possibly resolve this:
Step-by-step actions
Power reset
- Shut down the computer completely.
- Disconnect the power cable for 2–3 minutes.
- Reconnect and power on.
- Test the base USB ports again with a simple device like a wired mouse or USB flash drive.
Device Manager check
- Press Windows + X → Device Manager.
- Expand “Universal Serial Bus controllers.”
- Look for any entries with a yellow triangle or “Unknown device.”
- Right-click each USB Root Hub → Properties → Power Management tab → uncheck “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.”
- Restart and test.
Driver update
- Visit HP’s driver page for your model:
https://support.hp.com/in-en/drivers - Enter your product name (HP Omnistudio All-in-One).
- Download and install the latest chipset and USB drivers.
- Restart after installation.
Windows update
- Go to Settings → Windows Update → Check for updates.
- Install all pending updates, including optional driver updates.
Test with different devices
- Try multiple USB devices (mouse, keyboard, flash drive).
- If none respond, it confirms the ports are not initializing at the hardware level.
BIOS settings check
- Restart the PC and press F10 to enter BIOS setup.
- Look under Advanced → Device Configuration.
- Ensure “USB ports” are enabled.
- Save changes and restart.
You’ve already been patient in testing the system ports. If after these steps the base ports still don’t respond, it points to a hardware-level issue with the base connection.
Would you like me to walk you through the BIOS navigation step by step, so you can confirm whether those ports are enabled at firmware level?

Take care, and have an amazing day!

I was able to CORRECTLY connect my computer/monitor to my base today :)....I finally heard the "click" and it is firmly connected to the base. All USB ports on the base ARE WORKING NOW.
I did have to use a different method to connect to the base however...bringing the monitor to the base never worked correctly, so I laid the monitor face down on my bed, then connected the base to the monitor. As I applied a bit of firm pressure, I finally heard the "click" I was waiting for.
Thank you for your help in this matter...I feel much better now knowing this expensive computer is functioning correctly, and I was able to put away my USB hub and use the USB ports on the base instead.

You are very welcome @jason789
I’m glad to hear you were able to get the base connected firmly and that all the USB ports are now working. That satisfying “click” is the key indicator that the connection is secure, and it’s great you found a method that worked reliably for you. Laying the monitor flat and applying steady pressure is a safe way to ensure the connector seats properly without straining the hinge or ports.
It’s reassuring to know you can now use the built‑in USB ports instead of relying on an external hub—your setup should feel much cleaner and more convenient.
You're awesome, and I'm honored to have been your go-to guide! 😊
Stay fantastic, and have an amazing day ahead!
