My HP desktop has one stick of ram, DDR4, 8GB.. I want to add more ram but when I do the computer fails to start. I mean it powers up but nothing on the monitor. When I remove them, it's fine. I have two 8 GB sticks of ram that I want to add.  DDR4,2400, UDIMM. I have tried putting them in same colored slots while leaving the original stick installed. Tried it with removing the original stick and adding the new ones, no help.

This is my current ram info.

Any help will be appreciated.  Thank you.

Ok, I tried putting the two new ones in the first black and first white slots and it fired up. I had tried that with one new and the old one and didn't help.

At least I now have 16GB instead of 8. Maybe I'll buy one more 8GB and try all four.

Thanks for your help.

The memory should have worked if it was DDR4-2400 CL17, which will automatically bridge to 2133 MHz.

Something like this:

Crucial RAM 8GB DDR4 2400 MHz CL17 Desktop Memory CT8G4DFS824A Green/Black at Amazon.com

If that is what you used, then unfortunately I wouldn't know what the problem could be.

I used the 16 GB version in my Dell Optiplex 7050 MT, and it worked just fine.

Crucial RAM 16GB DDR4 2400 MHz CL17 Desktop Memory CT16G4DFD824A at Amazon.com

The 800 G2 SFF also supports 4 x 16 GB of memory.

For future reference, the most efficient way to install memory is to balance the amount of memory in each channel.

3 x 8 GB is not the way to go.

You want 2 x 8 GB in two same-colored slots and 1 x 16 GB in one other colored slot, or 4 x 8 GB in all 4 slots.

Refer to chapter 4, pages 22 - 24 of the service manual for the memory installation procedures.

Thanks for the reply. I tried installing the two new 8GB sticks by themselves (in same colored slots) and the same thing happened: wouldn't show up on monitor when started.

You're very welcome.

Please provide the model information, part number, specs of the memory you bought, because it is probably not compatible with your PC.

This is all the info I have on the new ones.

That memory definitely should have worked, so I don't know what the problem could be.

It's the same memory I would have recommended and did post.

It would be hard to believe that both chips were defective.

Try installing one of them each separately with or without the original 8 GB chip.

I think I did try that awhile back but not sure. I was trying all kinds of combinations. I'll try it again.

You're very welcome.

Yes, I would buy another 8 GB and have 32 GB running in dual channel mode.

You can't mess up the memory configuration that way either.  😊
