Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I have a question for you:

the only thing stopping me from upgrading to Windows 11 is my CPU: a i5-7500T in a H4 LGA1151-socket, all other hardware is up-to-par.

Now I’d like to upgrade to a i5-9400T or a i5-9600T, but I’d like to know for sure wether this new CPU will work with the onboard H4 LGA1151-socket (HP 829a motherboard).

I asked around but no-one can confirm this.

Has anybody here got an answer to this question?

Or knows where to find this information?

With many thanks,

Allard

Sorry, for the more or less off topic @AllardB59
@Paul_Tikkanen  you say computers work best with windows 11
you indicated that
"It seems I have less problems with W11 on older PC's than some folks do with brand new ones."
Faster computers, it doesn't matter, or is it not more those that have been installed completely, and not via windows update, in upgrade

Yes I know very well that there are options, to go back!
But that too, although it goes well for the most part, sometimes it doesn't go so well.
There is always a possibility, that it is more complicated
for someone, who masters his computer well, computing, ok,
but that's not the case for everyone
It is I think quite important, and that it is necessary to warn the users
Now I'm getting used to windows 11, but not for that I'm going to recommend it rather than windows 10

"they will have support for an additional 6 years beyond the W10 support date"
It's a fact, but I used windows xp, well beyond what was mentioned, without problem!
This will probably also be the case with windows 10
In any case, I advise not to spend anything, just to have "the pleasure" of installing windows 11!

But the safest thing would be to be able to keep your windows 10, not touch this installation, remove the system disk, or disconnect it
Use another system disk, to install windows 11, if you have one on hand
not satisfied, we replace the original hdd or ssd, even faster, and safer for the original OS!

Hello
Warning

Windows 11 on devices that don't meet minimum system requirements
We risk having serious problems, probably updates, security problems, we do not really know what else

If the installation goes well for some, for others it can be complicated

Hp also might not provide any update:

Think carefully, before taking the risk, see the experiences of other users, see if it can be interesting, or if you can wait to have a new computer later, 100% compatible!
Windows 10 remains one of the best systems, and can be used for quite a while.

I have performed the installation with a compatible computer ..
And I can not take full advantage of the more or less interesting features, because you have to have a certain material
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-11-specifications
So far, so there is nothing extraordinary about this system
So if the computer is not compatible, you have little interest in using it ..
In some cases, we can have more problem than something else (performance etc), it is better to wait until most of the bugs are solved.
And even better to have a 100% compatible computer, in order to be able to take advantage of the available features
Now, if you want to give it a try, first plan to use specialized software, and make a ghost copy of your installation.

Hi, @AllardB59

There are no supported W11 processors you can upgrade to.

HP business class PC's with the Intel 7th gen core processors should have no problem running W11 as is.

If you're interested, I can give you two easy ways to bypass the W11 hardware checks so you can perform an in-place upgrade to W11 on your PC, allowing you to keep your installed programs, files, and settings, and a way to easily go back to W10 after the default 'return to W10' period expires, in case W11 doesn't work properly on your particular PC.

Hello Paul,

I understand that, upgrading with an unsupported  CPU, means that I’ll not receive any Windows 11 updates.

As I read it, the H4 LGA1151, will be supported by the i5-9400(T) or the i5-9600(T), but opinions differ per site …

so why do you assume upgrading from a 7th gen. to e.g. a 9th gen. will not work in this case?

Greets,

Allard

Hi, Allard:

Your PC only supports the processors listed in the HP quickspecs at the link below, starting on page 10.

In other words, it only supports the Intel 7th gen core processors.

HP Elite 800 G3 Business Desktop Business PCs (netsotech.com)

As far as not getting updates...that is fake news.

I have upgraded 11 unsupported PC's to W11, and not one of them have had any issues whatsoever.

They have all gotten all the Windows 11 updates released thus far.

I check those against a PC I have that is fully supported to run W11.

hi

in effect @AllardB59
I gave you two documents, where everything that is validated by hp is mentioned
Read my answer and the links carefully.
you have no advantage to install windows 11 at the moment

But it's up to you

All of my unsupported HP and Dell business class PC's run better on W11 than they did on W10.

They boot up a bit faster and are a little more responsive.

Like I wrote...no problems at all.

It seems I have less problems with W11 on older PC's than some folks do with brand new ones.

Well mine, which is a compatible model, an average configuration
Nothing better compared to windows 10
no particular problem, but I would not say that it works so much better with windows 11
None, improvement question of use, visually, there is better, and less well
If you don't have the necessary equipment, you can't use the more interesting features
Now, I'd much rather warn users given the many posts here talking about windows 11 update failure issue than say, go ahead, go for it, it's great
Even if now, I got used to it a bit, and personally, I don't have any particular problem.
Prevention is better than cure

There are only 2 reasons why I prefer W11 over W10.

1. My PC's all run better with W11.  That is 11 PC's out of 11.

2.  Unless things change, at the current rate, since my PC's are getting all of the W11 updates, they will have support for an additional 6 years beyond the W10 support date.

The methods I provide to do an in-place upgrade are simple to do.

So is the method I provide to go back to W10 if necessary.

To me anyone that wants to try upgrading their PC to W11 should give it a try.

They have nothing to lose.

The 800 G3's hardware cannot be upgraded to support W11, which leaves two options:

Do nothing and remain on W10 like you indicated.

Give W11 a try like I indicated.

If for some reason W11 doesn't work, you go back to W10 in 5 minutes within the allocated time period Microsoft provides, or, you use my method of restoring from a system image beyond that period, which only takes less than 15 minutes unless a person has more than 500 GB of files.  Then it may take a while longer.

I have no regrets.
