HP Slimline Desktop - 270-p026
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I'm considering upgrading my CPU to support Windows 10 upgrade to Windows 11. Replacing just the CPU is an unlikely possibility, but replacing the motherboard with an updated CPU may be possible. I have an Intel Core i3-7100T and would need to go to something like a Core i3-8100T.

Is this possible? Are the motherboards interchangeable for upgrades?

Hi:

Below is the link to the product specs for your PC.

HP Slimline 270-p026 Desktop PC Product Specifications | HP® Customer Support

None of the supported processor upgrades meet Microsoft's minimum hardware requirements for W11.

I would not know if there are compatible motherboards that would fit in the existing case.

Doing an upgrade like that would be something I would never consider.

If you are interested in installing W11 on your PC as is, you can read this discussion for how I upgraded several HP and Dell notebook and desktop PC's that did not meet the W11 hardware requirements to W11 22H2.

I upgraded a Dell Optiplex 7050 MT which has an i7-7700 processor to W11 using the below method and it has been working fine.  Gets all the updates and whatnot.

You have to use the version of the Rufus utility that I zipped up and attached in the discussion (v3.18).

If the in-place upgrade fails, you should be able to clean install W11 using the bootable W11 installation flash drive you made with Rufus.

Then when W11 23H2 comes out, you should be able to use the same process with the new ISO file that will be available in Mid-October.

Fantastic! Thank you very much. I'll read over the materials and decide if I want to give it a try.

I used to build PCs before the prices dropped to the point where it was no longer financially practical.

You're very welcome.
