I want to see whether I can upgrade the graphic card in my h8-1240T to GTX 1060. I looked at the forum here and there are possible BIOS/UEFI issues.
Here are the details of the computer:
- HP Pavilion Elite h8-1240t
- Product number: A5U31AV
- Motherboard: IPMMB-FM (Formosa)
- Power: 460W
Looking at windows 10 System information, the BIOS is version 7. But, the BIOS is UEFI.
Can this machine use GTX 1060 or only use graphic card running in BIOS mode?
Thanks,

I can come back now and report this: it does work.
Still, you need to upgrade the BIOS to 8.3 first based on this page: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00007682
After that, GTX 1060 works great!
Thanks,

Thanks for the quick answer.
But, the list is only the video card available during the time the machine was released. Many more GPUs are released later and can be updated on the machine.
There are several threads in the forum about this:
I just wonder what is the fastest GPU this machine can support?

Thanks for the encouraging answer!
Still, the BIOS is the most confusing part about this. Looking at multiple posts about this, it says that new GPU, like GTX 1060, would require version 8 because the GPU require UEFI boot.
But, when I look at system information in windows 10, it says BIOS version 7, but with UEFI.
Still, does this machine support GPU requiring UEFI, or not?
Thanks,
