Hi, so my problem is I’m wanting to upgrade my PC but don’t know where to start. At first I was going to do a GPU upgrade and a new case, but someone on a forum said if I wanted to swap cases then most likely I’d have to change mobo and PSU as well. The mobo is a Odense2-k. So is it specifically designed for the case it comes in? That lead me to looking at entire new build and only transferring some things from my HP 580-023w.
I can build this setup for $500 with new and pre owned parts:
CPU: I5-12600k
MOBO: MSI Z690-A WIFI DDR4
PSU: Corsair RM750e
CASE: Corsair 4000D airflow tempered glass
CPU Cooler: Corsair Hydro Series H115i 280m RGB.
For GPU, storage, and RAM I’ll be taking it out of the 580-023w.
STORAGE: 500gb 860 EVO + stock 1 TB HHDD
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2x8) 2400 DDR4
GPU: 1060 (3gb)
Just wouldn’t have the money for a GPU upgrade after spending the $500 so I’m not really going to see much performance difference I don’t think.
Am I on the right track here or should I try to move all the components into the new case first and if it works save a ton of money by just getting a new PSU and new GPU?

@as012 , welcome to the Community.
Here are some HP Knowledge Base articles that will explain what you should consider when upgrading a computer:
https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Gaming-Knowledge-Base/Upgrade-Video-Card/ta-p/7481981
Here are the Product and Motherboard Specifications for your computer. You should look at the sections titled "Processor upgrade information" and "Memory upgrade information" for all of the specifications for the processor and memory.
You don't have a M.2 socket on the motherboard. You would have to buy a 2.5" SSD and replace the HDD. Your PSU is only 300W. You would have to upgrade it to at least 600W to 700W.
Now, for your custom build. The motherboard that you chose is excellent. However, you won't be able to use the I5-12600k. The motherboard is specifically designed for i9 processors. You will have to confirm with the MSI if the memory from your HP computer will work, also. You are correct that you won't see a lot of performance with the current video card.
Once you read the KB articles you will have a better idea of what you can do with your current components.
