Hi Tony,

I am interested to do this same upgrade. but would like to learn from your experience if I may.

I have 2 questions regarding this.
1 any bios mods required?
2 180w power supply sufficient?
3 did you need to lift the graphics cooling together with the CPU cooling to place the new CPU?
4 did you upgrade to the x3470? successfully?

Would appreciate your guidance?

Hi Pompey58,

My PC upgraded Successfully and running well till now.

For your Questions:

1. Used stock bios from latest HP Website.

2. 180w Power Supply is enough.

3. No.

4. I did . for me accuatly want to upgrade the latest xeon x3480 but not found,  only found X3470. and X3470 running well till now.

If you hv any questions, pls don't hesitate to ask me.

Hi Tony,

That's great info.

I am only on the lastest bios so I can just drop in the 'new' CPU I got on ebay (from china)

I found a genuine HP? power supply on ebay from France at 230W. which would provide the extra juice. (19V and 12+amps)

for your info, ebay also has x3480 from china but its quite a bit more expensive.

many thanks and best regards
