I really like the case that I have. I want to upgrade my motherboard and processor. Right now, I have:
Board: Hewlett-Packard 2AF3 1.0
Bus Clock: 100 megahertz
UEFI: AMI 80.16 12/05/2013
and
4th generation i7 -
3.40 gigahertz Intel Core i7-4770
256 kilobyte primary memory cache
1024 kilobyte secondary memory cache
8192 kilobyte tertiary memory cache
64-bit ready
Multi-core (4 total)
Hyper-threaded (8 total)
I would be happy with an i7 of anything over a 7th generation and a board to run it.
Any suggestions?

The spec for your system is here
You have a Kaili motherboard "MS-7826" made by MSI
https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c03748942
What is good is that the system is standard micro-ATX. If you have the 600 watt power supply that is a plus if upgrading the graphics to modern GTX or RTX graphics. There have been changes to power supply specs since 2013 and possibly the latest motherboards may have problems
Even the 450 watt is capable of gtx-1060
Discussion of using modern graphics card for your motherboard is here

You might consider getting a pre-built system especially if wanting a late model graphics card.
One of my kids bought a system with RTX-3090 three months ago and he paid less for the entire system than the going rate on eBay for RTX-3090. From what I read his board included a patch to prevent it from being used for cryptomining and oEM's like HP, Dell, etc can work out deals with board manufacturers to get lower priced items.
Hope this helps.

I am not as concerned about getting a high-end graphics card as I am interested in having a newer i7 processor and a board that can handle it.
I like my case. I have looked and looked for computers to include all that my case has, and I am not finding anything. I figure if I could upgrade my motherboard and processor to something newer, I will do that. I have built a couple of computers from scratch before (successfully) and am not afraid to do that. I just want to find out what I can do to do it again if it's an option.
You sent me a link for gaming motherboards, I am not a gamer. That isn't my motivation here.

Hello
sorry, but I think you won't easily find an answer here..
You have a computer, HP, with a particular motherboard format, and often so-called proprietary connectors (unless I'm mistaken)!
So, if you manage to find a motherboard, which can be fixed, you might have some other difficulty, from connectors
Clearly, the box is not so designed to accommodate another motherboard
unless a similar Hp model of the same series, or quite close, but that limits you anyway, little advantage!
In general here, we advise either to forget that, or possibly, to also replace the box, the tower!
it's the opposite, but it's in the same idea
