HP EliteDesk 800 G1 Base Model Small Form Factor PC

Dear all,

i own the PC in object and I would like to know if and how I could upgrade my CPU to an iCore of at least 7th generation (to be eligible to get Windows 11). As those CPUs have a different socket (if I am not mistaken), I am pretty sure I would have to change motherboard. Do you have any suggestion on a (compatible with my computer) motherboard/CPU combination for office work and light gaming?

Thank you.

Best,

Andrea

Hi, Andrea:

There are no processor upgrades you can do to your PC to meet Microsoft's W11 minimum processor requirements, which is a minimum of an Intel 8th generation core processor.

The 800 Elite G1 model series only supports 4th generation core processors.

If you are interested in installing W11 on your PC as is, you can read this discussion for how I upgraded several HP and Dell notebook and desktop PC's that did not meet the W11 hardware requirements to W11 22H2.

I have two Dell Optiplex business class PC's that have Intel 4th generation core processors running fine on W11.

You have to use the version of the Rufus utility that I zipped up and attached in the discussion (v3.18).

If the in-place upgrade fails, you should be able to clean install W11 using the bootable W11 installation flash drive you made with Rufus.

Thank you for your reply.

However, couldn't I just get a new motherboard with a proper CPU? If yes, my doubt is about the dimensions to look for, being this computer SFF.

Thank you again.

You're very welcome.

You wouldn't be able to fit a different motherboard in your PC that supports W11.

The 800 G4 SFF uses an entirely different case design and that was the first model that supported W11.
