I currently have the HP Pavilion HPE h8-1050, which originally came with Windows 7 on it. I have upgraded to Windows 10 64-bit.
My question is this: Is there a new or relatively new Nvidia Card that I can upgrade/replace the current AMD Radeon HD 6850 with? The new one must be Nvidia. I'm also not looking to do anything new with power supply or anything else in the machine- just want to upgrade the GPU.
I saw this previous thread but these cards are old now and hard to find:

Is there something current that I can get that won't require messing with the power supply?
Thanks!

@CM88, welcome to the forum.
The power supply unit (PSU) in the computer is 460W. This is enough to power any of the newer cards that will be compatible with your motherboard. However, the newer cards require UEFI in the motherboard instead of a Legacy/standard BIOS. HP didn't begin using UEFI until mid-October, 2012 with Win 8. The BIOS can't be upgraded to UEFI. The last cards that don't require UEFI are the GTX 660/670 series.
You are correct that the cards are older and hard to find, but as I stated, any cards newer require UEFI. You can choose a manufacturer and contact their Tech Support to see if they have a newer card that has a VBIOS that will run with a Legacy BIOS.

Thanks so much- it truly looks like the GTX 660/670 series are my only option- so now I must decide to either take a risk and find an old card somewhere or purchase a new system.
Your quick response & knowledge is much appreciated- I had no idea about the UEFI/BIOS issue.
Thanks!

Ok- over a year later and I have finally tried to upgrade the GPU in my hp Pavilion. I ended up finding a good deal on this card:
https://www.partscube.com/FPDH3-dell-nvidia-geforce-gtx-660-gddr5-pcie-video-graphics-card/
I pulled the old AMD GPU out and put the new Nvidia GTX 660 in and reconnected the power supply to the GPU. When I start up the HP Pavilion it just sits on the HP blue screen. It won't proceed to Windows startup. I looked into upgrading the bios but like you said you can't seem to upgrade to the UEFI- but it was my understanding the GTX 660 would be ok with a Legacy Bios. Am I missing something here?
My HP Pavilion HPE h8-1050 is now running Windows 10 btw.
