Upgrading HP ProDesk 600 G3 MT

Do you by any chance know the dimensions of the 180W it comes with so I can reference just to be safe this is my first SFF upgrade

An HP ProDesk 600 G3 SSF's 180-watt power supply can be any of these product numbers:

901762-004
901763-001
901763-002
901764-001
901765-003

I happen to have both the 901762-004 and the 901763-001 in my part & bits collection, and I can confirm that these 180-watt power supplies have the exact same dimensions as the 400-watt power supply.

Dear Forum,

The Dell Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Ti 6GB GDDR6 came in.  I uninstalled the AMD drivers first, shutdown the PC, removed the RX 5500 and replaced it with the GTX 1660 Ti.  Downloaded the Nvidia driver for the GTX 1660 Ti from here: GeForce Game Ready Driver | 527.37 | Windows 11 | NVIDIA, and successfully installed this graphics card.

Side Note: because the 8-pin PCIe power connection for this GTX 1660 Ti card is situated on its rear-top corner, I had to 'modify': i.e. cut a section out of the desktop's drives bay insert -see red circle, in order for the drives bay to fit.

Latest update: bid for (and Seller accepted) a brand-new HP Nvidia RTX 3060 12GB GDDR6 graphics card on eBay for a pricing I would not forgo:

This GPU should run just fine with the Platinum+ 400-watt power supply in my HP ProDesk 600 G3 MT.

Also, will install an additional "9025" cooling fan directly above the i7-7700K cooling fan/heatsink combo, but installed inside the chassis, blowing in (down).  During rough trial runs, the CPU is peaking at 90+°C, and I want to prevent this.

The: let's addon-an-additional-cooling-fan operation succeeded.

Had to change my initial plan though.  After careful measurements, it became crystal clear that the HP ProDesk 600 G3 MT's drives cage would not allow a 90mm (9025) fan to be installed on the inside of the chassis.

However, an 80mm (8025) fan would just fit -that is, I had to move the stock secondary 9025 fan from the inside to the outside of the chassis, in order to allow the installation of the 8025 fan (allowing moving the top panel off and onto the desktop) -see pictures:

Using off-the-shelf (well-used) work shed tools.  SAFETY first and foremost.  Always.  No shortcuts.  Ever.

The 8025 fan happily follows suit and revs up when the primary and secondary cooling fans speed up.

Dear Forum,

Ran the UserBenchMark performance test again (HP ProDesk 600 G3 MT Performance Results - UserBenchmark), with the hope that my benchmark would show up here: UserBenchmark: HP ProDesk 600 G3 MT Compatible Components.

Unfortunately, my score does not show up again, for reasons unbeknownst to me.  In any regard, this rig works and performs very well, as these benchmark results show:

And this desktop should be #1 in UserBenchMark's HP ProDesk 600 G3 MT category.

Morning Forum,

Ran the CPU-Z stress test and found that the CPU temps were only moderately cooler -we're talking about just a 3~4° C improvement:

Since I acquired an eclectic number of aftermarket CPU heatsink/cooling fan combos such as Intel's "Thermal Solution" model: BXTS15A, I will try out those options. To that end, I'm ordering a 3mm x 35cm x 35mm copper shimmy/plate, in case I need it to elevate the CPU surface to accommodate an alternative CPU heatsink/cooling fan combo.

And there you have it: UPS, Inc. was so kind to deliver the new (pulled from a brand-new HP desktop) HP Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 12GB GDDR6 early.

Installed, optimized graphics performance (no kidding, see below!) and kicking -well, out of the park.

Dear Forum,

Speaking of upgrading my CPU heatsink/fan assembly, I just ordered a 30mm x 30mm x 1.2mm copper shim/thermal pad to extend the height above the i7-7700K in case one of the aftermarket heatsinks I bought needs it.

To be honest, I would have preferred to order a 32mm x 32mm x 1.2mm shim, but I could not immediately locate one. Not sure if I need one anyway, but as the saying goes: better to have it and not need it, then need it and not have it.

Anecdotal User information online (mind you, not always reliable) would suggest that 30mm x 30mm would work just fine for an i7-7700K, like here: https://www.amazon.com/ask/questions/Tx3UXGXGKDDZUY/ref=ask_ql_ql_al_hza.
