@AS1981,

Please go to: HP Z240 Tower Workstation Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Customer Support, and see if any of the BIOS, soft/firmware upgrades apply to your desktop.

@AS1981,

 An HP Z240 Tower is compatible with the highest performing 7th generation Intel (Xeon) processors, specifically the i7-7700K and the Xeon E3-1280 v6 like I fitted in my HP Z240 TWR: HP Z240 Tower Workstation Performance Results - UserBenchmark.

Your RAM issue is most likely a soft/firmware issue (one can't be sure), or perhaps because HP is sort of particular with RAM, one on more RAM sticks may not be identical.  This was not an issue with a 6th gen processor, but it may play a role in the higher performing 7th gen CPUs.

Kind Regards,

Having switched out the RAM sticks with a different brand I suspect your right. I'd already updated the bios and drivers through the HP Assistant but I've repeated the process manually.

Having read through the link I posted earliest it suggested updating the Intel Management Engine Firmware might solve the issue. I can see there was from here https://support.hp.com/gb-en/document/c05306753 (Release date : 11-Oct-2016) that there was a version: Version: 11.0.18.1002.

My  Intel Management Engine Firmware  shows version: 11.0.0.1205 so its looks like this might be the solution.However the  Intel Management Engine software notes that the firmware isn't included and needs to be downloaded separately, but I can't seem to find this.

@AS1981,

Unless I misunderstand your query, the IME firmware update download file is right here:

Let me take a look if I can find the file somewhere else.

@JessikaV,

Seems like I cannot find the "Intel Management Engine Firmware Update and Utilities
Version: 11.0.18.1002" download (sp78283.exe), as the link is dead: https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp78001-78500/sp78283.exe.

Is there a way you could nudge an HP tech to make this download available for the OP, please?

Kind Regards,
