HP Desktop - M01-F0057ng
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Dear community,

I was planning to add a dedicated GPU to my pre-built HP Desktop M01-F0057ng.

Since my 180W PSU will not be able to handle any GPU, I found a 400W HP PSU (original HP PSU for TP01-0000) online which seems to be fitting in theory, as it has the same size and power conncetors (2 x 4pin and 1x 7pin) like mine. However, the 7pin connector of the new PSU has 6 cables, while my native PSU's 7 pin connector only has 3.

I am wondering if may run into trouble because of the difference in the amount of cables attached to the 7pin connector. Please help, as I am a total noob with regards to power cables.

Thanks!

You might find the following helpfull

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Successfully-upgrading-PSU-for-...

There are a number of 400-500 watt HP upgrade power supplies. I do not know which is best. I did see this one

https://www.ebay.com/itm/154393912066

if you zoom in you can see there are only 3 pins used out of 7. However, there is no PCI-e adapter for a graphics card.

This one has the PCI-e but cannot tell how many in the 7 pin connector.

Thanks you for your reply! The PSU from your ebay link looks just perfect. Since I live in Germany, I'm not able to order this one but I will try to find the same model some other way.

My favourite so far was this: https://www.ipc-computer.eu/laptop-spare-parts/internal-power-supplies/internal-power-supplies-l2987...

As you see, is is same like the one you suggested, but with 6 cables instead of 3 attached to the 7-pin connector. Do you happen to know whether this difference in cables may damage my PC?

Really odd anyway, the part number is the same, everything else is same, only the cables differ for some reason.

No, that 7 pin with extra wires is not designed for your system.  It is possible to remove cables with the correct tool but I do not recommend that.  There is no telling if the 3 wires you need are the same 3 on the cable.  Best to contact HP support in your area to find which they recommend.

Thanks, I checked out this list and my PC model is not featured there, however I have an M01-F0xx series and an Erica2 motherboard. For that kind of mobo, the list unfortunately only has an " x" set for the 180W PSU that I already have in my pre-built anyway.

Does that mean I'm not able to upgrade at all??

Probably your're right, there is now way aroud contacting HP in that matter. Sorry if I'm asking very basic questions, but despite trying, I wasnt able to find any kind of contact email of HP support in on this website. They seem to have hidden it somehow to reduce the amount of inquiries.

Hello all,

First off i would like to give a HUGEEEE thanks to

.@Wb2001 because that list help me tremendously in my journey to upgrade my power supply (and its been a total pain the the you know what)for my hp m01-f0024. So this rig runs the erica2 Mb and i can confirm with out a doubt that if your running my same unit or the m01-f0016 ( i believe the only diff is the amount of ram) you can use the 400w 942332-001 psu, that is the one i bought on amazon just got it yesterday i installed it along with my asus gtx 1650 oc and shes running smooth.
