Hi there.
This is my PC:
HP Omen 870-219 Refurbished PC
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8700 CPU @3.70GHz
GTX 1060 3GB GPU
Installed RAM 12.0 GB
Win 10
To my understanding, this computer shipped with a 8 gb slide and a 4 gb slide of RAM, making 12 total, as well as two additional slots for additional RAM. I researched the correct Samsung 8 GB DRAM slide (that is the same as in my PC currently) and am ready to install it. The question is if it is possible/advisable to simply add the 8 GB slide to the existing 12 GB of RAM, or if I should replace the 4 GB slide with the 8 GB slide instead. The models of the different specs of slide are different, and I would like to know if there are any compatibility concerns by going above the original specs of the PC's shipped build. Thanks.

Its specs
https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c05474320
Its motherboard ONLY has 2 slots of RAM
- Dual channel (one DIMM per channel) memory architecture
- Two DDR4 UDIMM (288-pin) sockets
- Supports the following:
- PC4-17000 (DDR4-2133)
- PC4-19200 (DDR4-2400) (with Pavilion Power chassis only)
- Supports 4 GB and 8 GB UDIMMs
- Supports up to 4 GB on 32-bit systems
note:
32-bit systems cannot address a full 4.0 GB of memory. - Supports up to 16 GB (unbuffered) on 64-bit computers
You can't add anything, you can REPLACE 4GB using same existing 8GB to have total 16GB.
Regards.

I second @banhien's comments, with this caveat: the max RAM capability of your HP Omen 870-219 is actually 2 x 16GB (32GB total): HP - Compaq OMEN 870-219 | Memory RAM & SSD Upgrades | Crucial.com.
It is highly recommended as @banhien hinted at, to use identical RAM sticks (brand & model), that would be 2 x 8GB where you remove the 4GB and replace it with an identical 8GB RAM stick, or you could consider switching to 2 x 16GB RAM sticks.
To find out what 8GB RAM stick you have, type in: CMD in your Windows search bar, right-click on the: Command Prompt App, left-click on: Run as administrator, and left-click on: Yes.
Then, copy/paste:
wmic memorychip get devicelocator, manufacturer, partnumber, capacity, speed, memorytype, formfactor
And hit Enter.
You should see something like this:
The "PartNumber" for your 8GB RAM stick is what you need to order via Amazon, Newegg, eBay, etc.
Hope this was helpful.
Kind Regards,

hi
@Sander048 just look what i explain here
upgrade computer h9-1228ef mot...
you can very well add a module, provided that it is identical to the one in place
Sometimes it allows you to save money for something else
If by bad luck the two modules are not compatible with each other, then buy the same
You have several possibilities, as can be seen with my computer
everything works, the frequencies are different, it works at the lowest speed
the computer, may not start with the two modules, together, but with the new one only it will work
The risk is minimal
