Pavilion desktop tp01-0019

Hey,

Just wondering how I can go about upgrading my grandpa's computer. I know it has the required slots for a graphics card and I can upgrade the ram but I am lost when it comes to the power supply. Ideally I would get a power supply that has extra pins for dedicated power to the GPU as my buddy has an old card that he would just give me for free (rx 480 I believe, not sure about the exact hookups). Any advice is appreciated.

Those computers utilize a proprietary designed power supply with unique plugs.

The TP01 is a series,  the 0019 is a model number.  It has a Rother motherboard,  also found in the TE01 and some TG01 series.  This spreadsheet reflects some GPU (graphic card) and PSU combinations.

Thanks for the response SimonaStick!

By "single slot graphics cards" do you mean cards that don't need any extra dedicated power cords from the PSU and get all their power from the PCI slot? Also, can you point me towards this list of approved graphics cards? I found approved ram upgrades on my own but I haven't seen a list of graphics card.

Also how likely do you think it is that changing out the PSU and adding a graphics card would damage the system? I understand how to build computers but I am not strongly familiar with engineering tolerances on things like OEM motherboards. I know certain chipsets of CPU's need better cooled and bigger power delivery interfaces but I wasn't planning on changing out the CPU so I figured the motherboard would be be fine provided I could get it an adequate power solution, whether that be an adapter or a PSU with the necessary proprietary plug.

Can I power the graphics card with an alternate power source while the main board uses the tiny supplied 180w? the alternate PSU does not have the P2 flat plug for the mainboard.
