HP Pavilion 590-p0102jp
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello, everyone.

I have a Pavilion 590-p0102jp that I want to upgrade from the integrated UHD 630 graphics to a discrete GPU. I found one thread that seems to indicate there are some 75w cards (GTX 1050, 1050Ti, or 1060?) that should work with the existing 180w PSU. I'm not looking for earth-shattering graphics performance; almost anything would be an improvement over the integrated graphics, so one of these would be ideal.

I originally thought I would have to upgrade the PSU in order to accommodate anything additional and was willing to do that, but I had a hard time figuring out what my PSU upgrade options are and what GPUs I could use with those options. I tried looking at the "Power Supply Cross Reference for specific models" posted by @Wb2001, but I couldn't figure out which models match my system and which PSU/GPU combos might work for me.

It would be great to make the leap from UHD 630 to something GTX, if possible.

Any experience or advice on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Your HP Pavilion 590-P0102jp (6DW21AA) is fitted with a Lincs motherboard (SSID: 843B), and as per the link you looked at, can be upgraded with either a 400-watt power supply with p/n: L04618-800 or a 500-watt power supply, with p/n: L05757-800:

Meaning, the 400-watt PSU can easily power a GTX 1060 6GB or an RTX 3050 8GB, and the 500-watt PSU can comfortably power an RTX 3060 12GB, RTX 4060 8GB, GTX 1070 8GB, GTX 1070 Ti 8GB or a GTX 1080 8GB.

Hope this was helpful.

Kind Regards,

This is just what I wanted to know; thank you!

I did crack open the case to confirm I have a Lincs motherboard before posting, but wasn't sure at which columns on the spreadsheet I should be looking.

I know there's not a lot of space inside the case for a GPU, so I'll keep that in mind while weighing my options. I can see going with a short- to mid-size card.

Once again, thanks for the help.

@SleepyMastodon,

You're welcome.  Yes, watch the graphics card's dimensions, especially its length for fit inside your desktop.

I thought I'd post a quick update to let you know I've ordered the 400W power supply. Stepping up to 500W was tempting, but I think we'll be happy with an RTX 3050. I'm considering a MSI GeForce RTX 3050 8GB (VENTUS 2X XS 8G OC) which is 205×112×45mm. I think it will fit... it's so hard to tell with these proprietary cases. If I can get confirm this will fit, I might be able to place an order and get this upgraded before the end of the year!

In case anyone else sees this: One thing I noticed with the 500W PSU recommended in the answer post—at least from the pictures I could find when searching for it—it looks to be quite a bit bigger than the 400W. A YouTube video showing an upgrade of a similar HP shows how much room it can take.

Either way, thank you very much for your advice. I've been wanting to upgrade this for at least two years, but could never figure out how to move forward. The level of your contribution to the community here is incredible.
