Victus by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-r0000 (76T01AV)

Hello everyone, since the beginning of May, my gaming laptop (a Victus Gaming Laptop 16-r0097nr) has black screened with the power button light flashing. The laptop is still on during this process as I still hear the audio. This happens whenever I try to boot up a game with alot of battery usage (ie. Marvel Rivals, Fortnite). I've had this laptop since December of 2023 and it was working perfectly fine until recently. All my graphic drivers are fully updated and I've hard reset the computer multiple times. I've even removed the battery, waited a few minutes and put it back in but that didn't work. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi @GBW59GBW24,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thank you for reaching out, and we understand how frustrating this can be. Based on your description, your Victus by HP 16.1-inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-r0000 (76T01AV) is black screening under heavy load (e.g., when launching high-demand games) while still playing audio, and the power button light blinks.

This issue may be related to: Thermal throttling or GPU overheating, Power delivery issues (especially if running on battery), Driver/firmware conflicts, Faulty VRAM or discrete GPU instability under load, Recent BIOS/Windows update conflicts.

1. Connect to Power

Always ensure you’re plugged into the original HP power adapter when gaming. Some games may crash or cause black screens if the system tries to switch between integrated and discrete GPUs on battery.

2. Turn Off Hybrid Graphics (MUX Settings)

  • Enter BIOS (press Esc or F10 at boot).
  • Look for a setting like “Hybrid Graphics” or “Switchable Graphics”.
  • If available, disable hybrid mode so it uses the discrete GPU only.
  • Save and exit.

⚠️ If no option is available in BIOS, check for it in NVIDIA Control Panel or HP OMEN Gaming Hub > Graphics Switcher.

3. Disable Fast Startup

  • Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do
  • Click “Change settings that are currently unavailable”
  • Uncheck “Turn on fast startup”
  • Save changes and restart.

4. Update BIOS & Drivers

Even if your GPU drivers are updated, make sure:

5. Check for Thermal Throttling

  • Install HWMonitor or MSI Afterburner.
  • Monitor GPU and CPU temps. If your system spikes above 90–95°C before crashing, it may be a thermal issue.
  • Clean vents with compressed air and ensure good ventilation.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
