Pavillion 510-p009
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I have a HP mid-size desktop Pavillion 510-p009 with i5 CPU,  that I bought early 2016.

I would like to upgrade the video adapter with a Gigabyte NVDIA GeForce GTX 1050ti.

(This card use only the supply provided by the PCI bus and the recommended PSU is 300W.)

Q: Can I replace the factory uATX 180W power supply with a ATX size power supply in the Pavillion 510?

Here is an example of a 350W ATX power supply:

Thank you for the support,

Sebastien.

@Sebas7777, welcome to the forum.

You should not have any problems replacing the 180W power supply unit (PSU).  However, if it were me, I would buy the 550W PSU for $10 more than the 350W.  It would give you more power for peak needs.

Note:  Measure the space for the PSU to assure that new one will fit properly.  All PSU's are not the same size.

Thanks for the reply.

I have measured the PSU in my HP and indeed its seems to be standard ATX size event if it is rated a uATX.

So here is the conclusion for my story,

I bought the Nvidia GeForce GT 1030, which is the only 'recent' video card  in a single slot form factor i found. Note that i use the version with a fan because the other version with no fan has a big heatsink which would not fit because the Hamar motherboard 24pin power connector is juste located beside the PCIe slot! (what a bad idea!).

The other nice thing with the GT1030 is that the stock 180W power supply seems to be enough for the job!

The video performance is great compared to the on board Intel 530 HD, i'm pretty impressed. I can play with Steam (Scrap Mechanic) in full 1080p at 60 FPS compared to less thant 10 FPS (unplayable) with the onboard video adapter.

So this card is a nice upgrade to anyone using a HP Pavillion 510 with the Hamar MB.

Seb.
