@raynebc,

If your white PCIe x16 (x4 wired) slot is available, I would use that slot for your PCIe to NVMe adapter.  In my case, the graphics card mounted in my HP ProDesk 600 G4 MT's black PCIe x16 slot -because it is a dual-slot graphics card, covers up the PCIe x4 slot, so that slot is not available to me.

I'll do that.  Thank you.

The x4 port is so close I'm not sure the PCIe NVMe adapter will fit without pushing against the video card, so I put it in the secondary x16 slot (the white one on the edge of the motherboard) as per your recommendation.  CPU-Z claims the graphic interface link width is x8 (the computer must have allocated half of the lanes to the second x16 slot even though it's only an x4 device).  CPU-Z said that the GPU's link speed was was 2.5GT/s, and GPU-Z said the card was running at PCIe x8 1.1 and that worried me until I ran the render test and it bumped up to PCIe x8 3.0.  It doesn't seem like this bandwidth limit will matter even for rendering with Blender, so I'll just shrug it off.  I'm more worried about the HDMI signal stability.  The video kept dropping out, and the 8 pin connector on this PSU seemed kind of finicky, like depending on how hard I pushed in the connector, it would fail to boot with a PSU related beep code sequence.  This PSU (the one that was refunded) may just be faulty.  The one with the correct P2 connector should arrive in the coming days.

The replacement power supply with the correct P2 connector works perfectly fine.  The video card, however, had a faulty HDMI port.  I bought a DisplayPort to HDMI adapter and the DisplayPort output works perfectly.  However since the card is faulty, I sent it back for repair/replacement, so this upgrade project has been delayed another 1-2 weeks.  After that, it should be a good little worker for several years.

@raynebc,

Please let us know how things work out once you got your replacement graphics card. If you don't mind, please run the UserBenchMark performance test and share.

Here is my HP ProDesk G3 MT motherboard components recommendation:

I mailed the card back, which took about 1.5 weeks and then they couldn't source parts to replace the bad HDMI port so they agreed to refund a third of the card's auction price and are going to mail it back to me.  This upgrade project is taking much longer than I wanted due to bad/wrong parts being sent to me but at least it's not terribly expensive except for waiting time.

@raynebc,

Yea, I understand your frustration all too well.  Been there, done that, so to speak.  Recent case in point: I just purchased 4 x 16GB of "non-returnable" Samsung DDR4 RAM via eBay for my HP EliteDesk 800 G5 SFF, only to find out that it was unusable Server RAM, not desktop RAM. So, I started a refund request stating my reason and the Seller fortunately decided to refund my money and said I could keep the RAM.

Anyway, as long as your graphics card's other video port(s) work just fine, I wouldn't worry about it too much.

The card arrived in the mail this afternoon but this time it was completely faulty.  No matter which computer I installed it in, the computer would fail to boot.  The seller agreed to have me send it back for a refund.  A small silver lining is that ASUS happens to be selling a bunch of first party refurbished GTX 1660 Supers on ebay right now for pretty much the same price as this failed experiment so I bought one from ASUS and it's pretty likely to come in proper working condition.

@raynebc,

These things happen, but other than some temporary annoyance, things usually work out just fine in the end.

I was thinking about the wifi arrangement.  Since the video card does block access to the PCIe x1 slot, I can't use my old computer's wifi card.  In a previous photo, you recommended the ax210ngw dtk wifi card.  Can you confirm this is a compatible M.2 card I could install to add Wifi to the computer?
