The CPU this machine shipped with (Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700 CPU @ 3.40GHz) was about one generation too early to officially run Windows 11, and I'm getting nervous about the 2025 end-of-life date on Win10.
Before I start diving into the box to determine this experimentally:
1) Is the CPU socketed on this system?
2) If so, are there any Win11-supported CPUs which could be swapped in, and which are they/what should I be looking for to recognize them? (Specific socket type, I assume.)
(Comments about Microsoft's decision to tell folks running old hardware to move to Linux politely withheld.)

Hi:
You can't upgrade the processor in your PC's motherboard to meet Microsoft's minimum W11 processor requirements of needing to be an Intel 8th generation core processor or newer.
If you are interested in installing W11 on your PC as is, you can read this discussion for how I upgraded several HP and Dell notebook and desktop PC's that did not meet the W11 hardware requirements to W11 22H2.
You have to use the version of the Rufus utility that I zipped up and attached in the discussion (v3.18).

If the in-place upgrade fails, you should be able to clean install W11 using the bootable W11 installation flash drive you made with Rufus.
I upgraded my HP Elitedesk 800 G3 DM to W11 using the above method and it works just fine.
My PC has the i5-6500T 35W processor.
