EliteDisplay E243m 23.8-inch monitor
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I've got a new monitor but I don't know if I should install the sp82370.exe. The description is:

This package contains the HP Display Installer program, which automatically detects the Microsoft operating system that is running on your computer and installs the corresponding Microsoft Windows certified monitor .INF and .ICM driver files that are used to help configure the HP EliteDisplay E243m Monitor.

The description is vague since it is not clear what are they for and if they are needed at all.

I've searched on the internet but no information whatsoever about them, the benefit or improvement in performance or monitor (if any). Also, I'm not sure if this is related to colour accuracy which could help me achieve similar colour when printing.

Please reply only if you have useful insight or information.

Thanks!

Ro

Hello
This is not mandatory, the screen can work very well with microsoft drivers.
Sometimes it can make a few improvements, can help with photos/ printing

Otherwise, it's simple, just double click on the download file, the installation is automatic
a bit of information here:

What are the Information Files Required for a Monitor Driver?

Many thanks for the info.

Precisely I'm trying to match colour accuracy from monitor to print. I know there is a lot of information out there about colour profiles and that it also depends on paper and printing technology. Also, this monitor may not be for photo editing, but I want to make a test and see how my prints go before considering purchasing a more expensive monitor.

Do you have any experience with these files and printing? Also, I wonder, if I install those files, still which profile should I use select in the monitor?

Thanks again!

No, sorry I only have a vague idea
You have to calibrate the screen, and at best, especially for photos, you can use a specialized device!
But I would advise you to validate my answer here, for the initial question, and to try to make a request in the printer section (still it is necessary to have an HP printer)
Otherwise, you should look in the forum specialized in photo
You can learn how to perfectly calibrate your screen, in order to have a good screen rendering and printed photos

if you are trying for color accuracy (WYSISWYG) what you see is what you get, then ALL devices must support/have a ICC color profile. this means that devices such as the monitor, the printer, scanner  and the software application(s)  must all be using a ICC profile, if any device in the chain is not then the results will be as if none of the devices are color accurate
