Computer was frozen during a upgrade, so despite it saying don't turn off computer I didn't know what else to do so I shut it off. It started up again after many tries and hard resets, but nothing would work once it turned on. I ran the system fast test and the hard drive/SSD short DST check failed. The failed ID was Q4NCG2-83EB8A-XD7WMA-60R403 Do I need to replace the hard drive, or can this issue be fixed?

Thanks in advance

Hello @Luannseidler

Sorry to hear that you are having problems ... I would like to help you.

Short DST is drive self test. This means that the seek, read and write operations can no longer be performed reliably due to technical errors.

The hard disk urgently needs to be replaced ! A later access to the hard disk via a SATA-to-USB adapter is still possible. However, it cannot be guaranteed that you can access all data.

Kind regards

hi

@Luannseidler  please give the product number

[start]This is an automatic response

To find it follow this
for a desktop computer

HP Desktop PCs - How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number? | HP® Customer Support
and for a laptop
HP Notebook PCs - How Do I Find My Product Name or Number? | HP® Customer Support
Give the full name with the product number P / N

this is not a model:
HP Desktop M01-F1xxx
the requested product number must look like this
Product Number: 9EE50AA # ABA
the model corresponding to this number will therefore be
HP Desktop - M01-F1033wb

This is a macro, recorded answer, read the following carefully, and see according to your own problem.
If you have any doubts, ask me, I will try to answer the best
you have an error message, or a problem with the hard drive (or SSD)
this indicates that your hard drive is certainly damaged
Depending on the error, and its condition, it may fail anytime.
maybe it doesn't work anymore
First of all, you can try to recover personal data

Once your data has been saved
You can either follow the following or buy a new hard drive directly!
What I am indicating now is just a rescue option
If it works, it will be temporary, back up your data regularly
depending on the hard drive condition, it may work a good time
but the hard drive may fail permanently
it is mainly in order to be able to use the computer, the time to replace the system disk
be careful because the goal is to erase the hard drive, your unsaved data will be lost
so you have to reinstall the computer completely
There are several methods, depending on the installed windows system and your computer

Try a full reinstall

You can try to help yourself with this tutorial (sorry not fully translated)

Using the HP Cloud Recovery Tool (Windows 10, 7)

if you have windows 10 you can use microsoft tool
https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/software-download/windows10

If you originally had a sata HDD you could possibly install a sata SDD
but this is another topic, if needed you should open another thread
