QUESTION: What is the Max RAM for HP 850-065se Computers [32GB (4 x 8GB) -or- 64GB (4 x 16GB)]?
HP’s online documentation for HP 850-065se computers specifically states:
"Memory upgrade information Supports 2 GB, 4 GB, 8 GB, and 16 GB DDR4 DIMMs"
-and-
"Supports up to 64 GB on 64-bit computers"
-and-
“Memory slots: 4 DDR4 DIMMs Maximum memory: 64 GB (4 x 16 GB) (64-bit OS)”
ANSWER: A HP support forum moderator contributed and facilitated both results and answers directly from HP specifically regarding the HP 850-065se computer RAM upgrade question. The HP moderator forwarded my inquiry to HP Executive Escalations who assigned a HP Case Manager. The Case Manager provided the following technically correct information from a HP technician concerning HP 850-065se computers:
"Sadly, just because the motherboard can handle 64 doesn’t mean the BIOS supports it. Which is why the (64 GB) upgrade is not working. There is no BIOS update to support the upgrade, unfortunately there isn’t likely to be one in the near future, and wouldn’t be supported for this unit anyway. The unit was never designed to run 64 GB or RAM and that is a limitation of the BIOS that HP created for this product. HP does not support the use of 64 GB of RAM for this product and that is why we did not sell the unit with the 64 GB option. What we have found is that this unit was customized as a 32g unit, which is the highest that was available at the time. The only conceivable way to get this unit to run the 64 GB of RAM would be for the unit to stop running certain HP drivers and software in exchange for the original manufactures driver and software. This process would not be supported by HP in any way and may require extensive research to achieve (if even possible). This would essentially be taking the HP out of the HP computer and running it as a custom build."

All online documents on HP’s support website should always identify the maximum RAM as 32GB (4 x 8GB) for HP 850-065se computers [i.e. not 64GB (4 x 16GB)].
My inquiry was again forwarded to HP Executive Escalations who assigned a HP Case Manager. The Case Manager provided the following technically correct information concerning HP 850-065se computers:
"I have done research and have spoken with many people on this matter and we just cannot support that type of (BIOS) upgrade the Unit you have is not built for that type of change. What you would need is a Commercial grade work station or gaming system. The unit was never designed to run 64 GB of RAM."

Interesting response from HP. It implies documentation error including this posted information. HP 850-065se configurable options. There are conflicts with the posted information.
One section indicates the use of 8GB dimms while another section states using 16 GB dimms. One might conclude a market timing with the availablity of the 16 GB dimms.
@Bill_F Any comments?

I now have to waste the money I spent by throwing away the qty=4 correct 16 GB RAM cards previously purchased to upgrade my HP 850-065se computer to 64 GB [HP's online support documentation incorrectly states that my computer can be upgraded to a max of 64 GB RAM (4 x 16 GB)].
This is unsatisfactory.

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).
If you are unfamiliar with how the Forum's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forum.
