I have purchased a new monitor that requires a USB A 3.? connection for an "upstream" cable (computer to monitor) I need to find the best longer term connection options.
Currently I use 2 USB 3.0 extenders from the front ports to connect my external HD's (both USB 3.) and I would prefer to use a rear connection for the monitor. Current configuration 4 USB A 2.0 ports on the back and 4 USB A 3.1 ports on the front, along with 1 USB C port in front. I have 2 PCIe expansion slots available, x1 and x16.
Can I replace the 4 USB 2 ports in the rear or add a card for the new ports? It appears that a USB 3.1+ card requires a PCIex4 slot or I can use the PCIex16 slot.
FYI my configuration has a separate graphics card
