@Rattlevr , welcome to the Community.
Here is a HP Knowledge Base article that will explain what to consider when adding or upgrading a video card. Once you have read the article you will have a better idea of which cards will fit into your case. The power supply unit (PSU) in your computer is only 320W. The GTX 1060 requires a minimum of 400W to run properly. Therefore, the PSU would have to be upgraded if the card works.

Thank you for the additional information, @Rattlevr!
The GTX 960 only requires a minimum of 300W. However, it requires 1 x 6-pin supplemental power connector. I don't believe that your original PSU will have this connector. You can see the full specifications in my link.

If you read the article that I provided in my original post you will find instructions on how to measure the space where the card will be installed. You measure from the I/O ports on the back of the case to the front of the case. There must be space for good airflow. The newer cards produce a lot of heat. The specifications for the cards will show the length, width and depth. You compare these measurements with the ones that you get from measuring the space in the case.

Your HP Compaq Pro 6305 SFF as fitted with a stock 240-watt power supply, cannot power either a GTX 1060 or a GTX 970 since both require at least a 300-watt power supply and one or more 6-pin PCIe power cable(s). In addition, these graphics cards are not low-profile, which make them not fit in an SFF either.
However, there is a convenient and safe way to upgrade your desktop's power supply by using a 24 Pin to 6 Pin ATX Power Adapter Cable, such as this Amazon-United Kingdom purchase example. Make sure that the ATX power adapter cable's specs specifically mentions your desktop (6305) to ensure full compatibility:
What this adapter can do is to replace your proprietary HP power supply with an industry standard ATX power supply: plug in the ATX's 24-pin power cable into the adapter, the adapter's "P2" and black 6-pin power cables into your motherboard. Then plug in an ATX power supply's 4-pin CPU power supply cable in your motherboard, and the ATX's PCIe power cable(s) can power your graphics card. Easy-peasy.
I hope this is helpful.
Kind Regards,
