HP 22-0063w All-in-one desktop 2018
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have an HP 22-0063w All-in-one desktop with Apulia model N97A motherboard model year 2018. I researched Apulia and HP for ssd compatibility and all clues suggested that an M.2 NVMe 4.0 was the correct drive. Once opened I find the ssd slot is an NGFF. My question is "can I use the NVMe in the NGFF slot?"  Also, the heat sink contracts a couple of small chips on the board underneath.  Will this be a problem?, assuming the drive will work.

Its motherboard has one M.2 slot for M.2 SSD. No, it won't run Gen 4 speed. You can use Gen 4 drive because it is backward compatible.

Regards.
