Hi,
I have an HP Z640 Workstation with TPM version 1.2. I know HP have an update utility to version 2.0. When I try to upgrade the TPM the utility works and restarts my PC and prompts me to accept the update in the BIOS. However, when it does this I know from youtube there should be another screen showing me the progress of the update and then eventually show an update successful message however when I accept the update the screen just goes black and boots back into Windows. I am on the latest BIOS version. Is there anything I am doing wrong? Do I need to disable virtualisation?

There is a discussion on how to enable TPM for z440 by @DGroves here that is worth reading.
I just looked at page 28 of the manual here and it looks like you need to set a bios password to get TPM enabled.
There is a recent bios update here. I read the released notes and TPM 2.0 and 1.2 are mentioned but there is no indication the bios needs to be updated to get TPM to work.

a password is NOT REQUIRED to enable (or update/downgrade) TPM
set the bios to factory defaults and do not change the TPM state once you have the factory defaults loaded
the HP updater will detect the installed TPM ver, and do the update/download automagically
the section on setting a tpm password beemerbiker is referring to is for enterprise usage and not required for normal end user use
the latest bios for the z440 should be installed but is not a requirement for using TPM 2.0/1.2

Thanks I will try setting it to factory defaults - hopefully the update goes through this time. Although the HP updater always shows success it never actually get to the TPM is updating screen in bios so hopefully this works.

There is another discussion here where a user was able to get z440 from 1.2 to 2.0
I assume you want to get 1.2 to 2.0 to get the latest and greatest tpm.,
I you are attempting to upgrade to windows 11 then you will have a problem with the Haswell processors as they are not blessed by Microsoft to run Windows 11.
If you want to upgraded to windows 11 you can use the following procedure that does not require tpm nor gen 8 cpus.

I do not have a Z640 but my older Z400 can run windows 11 just fine

Hello, There some other threads about this subject as you already know. I posted a solution that worked for me on a Z640 and a Z440 here: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/Z440-Workstation-T...
