@philicheesestea,

Welcome to our peer-to-peer HP Community Forum!

An RX 580 requires a 500-watt power supply and one 8-pin PCIe power cable, whereas your HP Compaq Elite 8300 Small Form Factor PC (G0R29UC) came with a 240-watt power supply without any PCIe power cable(s). Another issue is that an RX 580 is a full-sized graphics card and would be too tall (height) to fit in your SFF case.

An RX 580 is a decent graphics card, but the minimum graphics card requirement to play No Man's Sky according to "PCGameBenchmark" is a GTX 1060, meaning, an RX 580 will struggle to play this game since its graphics card performance is less than a GTX 1060 -see links below.

However, there are ways to upgrade your HP Compaq Elite 8300 SFF to allow you to play any game you can think of, as shown in my HP Elite 8300 SFF upgrade project -but be forewarned, it requires some expenses and intermediate to advanced PC skills to get there and it will take you off the HP Reservation: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Upgrading-HP-Elite-8300-SFF/m-p....

and the guide tells me how to switch a 6300 to a 8300, not how to upgrade my current pc.

@philicheesestea,

This is a toughie, because no matter what, you or your caretaker(s) will have to spend money in order to create/replace your computer that will be able to play games such as No Man's Sky...

@philicheesestea,

The HP Elite 8300 SFF upgrade link I shared tells precisely how to upgrade an HP Elite 8300 SFF once I swapped the motherboard. What makes a particular PC what it is, is determined by its motherboard. Once I installed the HP Elite 8300 SFF motherboard, the desktop became an HP Elite 8300 SFF.

thanks for answering all my questions, i really appreciate it, bit one last question, because i doubt that i can change the motherbaord without messing everything up, i did some research, and apprently, there is a somewhat decent graphics card called GTX 1050 ti that works with my 8300 SFF, can you makes sure this is true, beacuse i dont want to waste 150 dollars lol.  heres the link https://www.userbenchmark.com/System/HP-Compaq-Elite-8300-SFF/1722 its at the bottom under GPU

@philicheesestea,

You'll need a GTX 1050 Ti 4GB low-profile model, such as this eBay purchase example: ZOTAC GEFORCE GTX 1050 TI 4GB GDDR5 GPU Low Profile Graphics Card | eBay.

And yes, this will work with your 240-watt stock power supply.
