@Tron0903,

Welcome to our HP User Forum!

Your HP Pavilion Desktop TP01-1160 PC (1J7L9AA) according to: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06955259, is fitted with an Erica3 (SSID: 87D6) motherboard, and according to: https://files.bbystatic.com/ypg8DVuc3m85swfqFfUPKA%3D%3D/NAE-HP-PVTP01-1160.pdf, is equipped with a 180-watt power supply.  There is not a lot you can do graphics-wise with a 180-watt power supply.

However, according to: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Upgraded-PSU-for-TP01-1160/td-p..., the 400-watt HP (p/n) L69242-800 power supply is compatible with your desktop.

You can purchase this power supply starting at $83 via eBay: https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=HP+L69242-800+&_sacat=0&LH_PrefLoc=2&_sop=15.

With this 400-watt PSU, you could think about getting something like this: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1650 OC Low Profile 4GB, as seen here, for example: https://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-GeForce-Graphics-Windforce-Gv-N1650OC-4GL/dp/B081L3PSGK/ref=sr_1_1?c....

Hope this was helpful.

Kind Regards,

Thank you for your reply.  I really do not want to give up my tower, however, I do realize I need to upgrade.  Trust is an issue.

I live near the Tri-Cities.  Bristol, Johnson City, Kingsport, TN.  Just over the state line in Virginia.  I would like to ramp up to 2 terabytes and more speed and yes address graphics issues.  Must I go to Windows 11?  Because in all honesty, I'm ready to go Linux if I'm pushed much further.  Thanks, Melissa

@Mel6163,

You do not have to switch to Windows 11 for the foreseeable future. Even if a processor isn't a Microsoft 'approved' W11 CPU, you can still upgrade to W11 using a number of methods worked out by some very smart computer nerds.

I'm not sure if Linux is the way to go, to be honest.  This is more for PC techies and basement hobbyists, if you know what I mean.

@Mel6163,

And come to think of it, your Ryzen 7 4700G is Windows 11 approved.  It is also a very nice processor: 3.60 GHz to 4.40 GHz speed, 8 Cores & 16 Threads, and a low 65-watt TDP.  Should be capable enough for many years to come.  Especially if paired with a decent graphics card and at least 2 x 8GB of DDR4 PC4-25600, 3200 MHz RAM.

You know, switching to W11 isn't really a big deal, at least in my opinion. It is similar enough to W10 as not to get lost in the proverbial woods.  I have switched out all my PCs (with one laptop exception running W7) to W11, and I have been very pleased with this upgrade.

[EDIT:] Amazon hiked up significantly the cost for the GTX 1650 4GB graphics card link I provided the other day.  Here is a similar low power GTX 1650 4GB but (still) affordably priced option: Amazon.com: ZOTAC GAMING GeForce GTX 1650 OC 4GB GDDR6 128-bit Gaming Graphics Card, Super Compact, ..., with these dimensions (length x width x height): 11.14 inches x 8.58 inches x 2.36 inches.

@Tron0903,

Your HP Pavilion Desktop TP01-1160 PC (1J7L9AA) according to: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06955922,
has 16 GB of DDR4-3200 SDRAM installed -I assume 2 x 8GB RAM sticks.

If your desktop were mine, I would choose this Crucial (p/n: CT2K16G4DFRA32A) 2x16GB DDR4 PC4-25600, 3200 MHz, Non-EEC, UDIMM, 288-pin RAM kit via Newegg, priced (currently) at $75.87 (free shipping):  https://www.newegg.com/crucial-32gb-288-pin-ddr4-sdram/p/N82E16820156269?Description=crucial%202x16g....

This is very competitively priced: less expensive than if you purchased it via Crucial or Amazon.  It ships from China, but is covered under Newegg's warranty umbrella, so to speak.

Hope this was helpful.
