when I try and start my laptop up i get a message that says boot device not found. It also says”please install an operating system on our hard disk”. how would I fix this problem because i’m really confused.

Typically that means the hard drive has failed and needs replaced. It could mean, however that the OS is corrupted and needs to be reinstalled. Start by looking in the BIOS to verify the hard drive is listed. If it shown in the BIOS, perhaps the OS can be saved.
