HP ENVY Curved All-in-One - 34-b010qe CTO

Hi,

How do I check the BIOS version (and possibly update it) of this Envy curved 34 all in one? We have an intermittent fan noise issue. Could it be the BIOS ? Its been ok for 6+ years.

I vacuumed the rear fan vents and blew air into them. Anything else I should do?

Is there a way to open the box? I would try that if it was a normal desktop. But this all in one seems to be sealed.

The model: 340b010qe CTO

Suggestions?

thanks in advance.

@saz25,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

Greetings, and thank you for reaching out!

How to Check the BIOS Version and Update It:

  1. Check the Current BIOS Version:

    • Windows Method:

      1. Press Win + R, type msinfo32, and press Enter to open System Information.
      2. Look for BIOS Version/Date in the system summary. This will show your current BIOS version and release date.
    • Alternatively, in BIOS Setup:

      1. Restart your computer and immediately press the Esc key (or F10 on some HP systems) to enter the BIOS setup menu.
      2. Look for the BIOS version listed on the main screen.
  2. Update the BIOS:

Regarding Fan Noise Issue:

  • Intermittent Fan Noise:
The noise could be due to dust build-up, a failing fan, or thermal management issues. Given your attempt to clean the vents, the fan might still be affected by internal dust or degradation after 6 years of use.

  • Additional Actions to Try:

    1. Check for Dust Inside: If you can carefully open the system, look for internal dust on the fan and heatsinks. Dust can accumulate on the internal components and affect cooling efficiency.
    2. Check Fan Health: If you can access the fan through any available covers, check if it spins freely without obstruction. A failing fan can cause intermittent noise.
    3. Run HP Diagnostics: Use HP PC Hardware Diagnostics to check for potential issues with the fan and system temperature:
      • Press F2 during boot to run HP PC Diagnostics.

Opening the All-in-One System:

  • Opening the All-in-One:
    • Most HP all-in-one systems are designed to be sealed for ease of use but can sometimes be opened for maintenance. However, this might void your warranty if applicable and can be tricky because of the compact build.
    • Caution: Before attempting to open the system, check the service manual (available on HP's support site) for the proper procedure.
    • If the system is still under warranty, it's best to contact HP support for repair or maintenance options.
    • Here is an HP YouTube instructional video which shows how to open your AIO: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=reclP_y9wL4&ab_channel=HPSupportUnfortunately, HP's instructions are lackingunder the base plate there is a 6-mil thick adhesive mat you have to peel with a razor blade. if you try it with your fingers, it will peel just the print and not the whole adhesive mat, so I recommend using a razor. Underneath you will find 1 silver screw and 4 additional black screws. There are a total of 12 screws holding the base, not 7 like the video incorrectly describes.  Here is another vid explaining things: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZiMZ30Deo4&ab_channel=AndrewMarcDavid.
    • If the above videos don't appear to apply to your AIO, let me know.
    • To be brutally honest, for most people this particular AIO is a pain to disassemble.  It is very easy to damage parts, especially the screen.  If you are not completely comfortable taking on the task to take your AIO apart, I would strongly recommend taking your AIO to a local computer repair/service shop. I would call before taking your AIO to the repair/service shop, to make sure they would be able/willing to service it.

Suggestions to Improve Fan Function:

  1. Ensure Proper Ventilation: Make sure the system is in an area where airflow is not obstructed. An all-in-one system can get hot if placed in a tight or enclosed space.
  2. Update BIOS and Drivers: Sometimes BIOS and system updates can improve thermal management and fan behavior.
  3. Contact HP Support: If the fan noise persists or you cannot resolve the issue, contact HP support to see if you can schedule a service or check for warranty options.

Let me know if you need more specific guidance or help!

Kind Regards,

Hi, I just tried to update the BIOS. It failed.

See images. It shows my system info, my current BIOS version, etc.

And the failure popup.

Suggestions?

Is the updated BIOS compatible with my system?

thanks

Steve

Hi

I just noticed something else when I did a windows update.

One of the optional updates (yes I am missing a bunch),

shows HP Firmware version 15.37.

Looks to be the BIOS version F.37. Correct?

I'm nervous about trying to install that since it failed when I tried using the BIOS update tool you suggested.

Why did that upgrade fail? What's the pros/cons of installing the BIOS update using these 2 different methods?

Just an FYI I just installed several windows updates.

Suggestions?

thanks

Steve

@saz25,

Let me check something first.

Please type in: system information in your lower search bar.

Click on the System Information app.

Look to the right of: "BaseBoard Product".

Does it say: 826A?

Kind Regards,
