Anybody ever upgrade a 800 G2 35W mini to a i5 7500T? What I am hoping to do is upgrade from the 6500T to upgrade the video to HD 630.

You're very welcome.

The reason I mentioned the 'T' is because the other Skylake processors listed in the manual without a 'T' are for the 65W 800 G2 DM models only.

What is not confusing is that you can see that there are no Intel 7th generation core processors on the list of supported processors with or without a 'T' listed in the 800 G2 DM service manual.

That is because a processor such as the i5-7500T you were inquiring about will not work in your PC.

You would need to have an 800 G3 35W DM in order for the i5-7500T to work.

Hi:

The EliteDesk 800 G2 DM model series cannot support an Intel 7th gen core processor of any model.

See the HP service manual chapter 2, page 7 at the link below for the list of supported processors.

The 35W models can only use the processors ending with a 'T.'

Thanks for the reply, though I'm a little confused that your answer was an across the board no, but you also made a point to mention the T designation that I know designates the PC as the lower powered one. You will notice the 7 series CPU is also a T series CPU. Your bringing up the T makes your answer just little confusing to me.

OK, here I am later with a 65W 800 G3 with a 65W power adapter. It ran my i3 7100 just fine. The seller said it uses a 65W power adapter which I already had when ordering the barebones unit on eBay.

I have installed my i5 7600, which is in the list of CPU's for the 65W. I am getting 3 red flashes followed by 4 white and no post. A quick search suggested a power issue. The support page says 51W for the i3 and just 65W for the i5 7600. Do these normally come with a 90W adapter?  thanks

I guess the reason the i3-7100 worked is because your PC's power supply had barely enough excess to power the rest of the unit, so it worked.

The i5-7500 65W processor leaves the power supply with zero wattage to run the rest of the PC = Won't boot.

If you enter the serial number of the 65W G3 unit you just bought in the search window at the link below, it should tell you what wattage power adapter that originally came with the PC.

I'm pretty sure you will find that your PC should have come with the 90W power adapter.

Thanks! It actually comes back with part numbers for both based on my serial number, so the answer seems to be yes it takes a 65w and a 90w, depending.

You're very welcome.

No doubt there are some used but tested and working genuine HP 90W 800 G3 power adapters on eBay.

This was the least expensive one I could find.

Thanks for that extra effort. I'm kind of leaning towards putting the i3 7100 back in, since this PC only cost me 25.00 though it appears to be like new. Adding more expense to a build where I already have everything on hand but the 90W may not be what I am inclined to do. Since my original aim was to upgrade the G2 I have to HD 630 graphics that has been accomplished and the i3 7100 is about an equal with the i5 6500T and it is its better in some ways. The HD 630 will run 4K at 60 fps instead of only 30. It might even "game" slightly better on some less demanding games I play. I just swapped out the SSD for a Samsung 970 Plus NVME so I'm going to settle for that upgrade over the i5 7600 upgrade. That will go back in the Dell 5050.

Anytime.

Glad to have been of assistance.

I have the Dell Optiplex 7050 MT model.

I like it a lot.

I installed a nVidia GT 1030 graphics card in it, removed the 2.5" SATA SSD it came with, and installed a Crucial P5 NVMe SSD.

I run W11 Pro on the PC.

I also have the 800 G3 DM 35W which came with a 65W charger and the i5-6500T processor.

I removed the 2.5" SATA SSD it came with and installed a Samsung 980 1 TB NVMe SSD in its place and I run W11 Pro on that one as well.
