HP Pavilion m9040n
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Dear all,

I have an old HP m9040n sitting in my garage and I'm trying to repair it so that I can use it again. I think it came with Windows vista if I'm not mistaken? Anyway, currently this PC can be turned on, but there is no screen. I did some research and people seem to say that the added graphic card might be the culprit. I just replace my home PC Dell XPS 8500 to use a newer graphics card GTX 1650, so now I have an old AMD Radeon 7770 HD 2GB GPU, which I'm thinking that maybe I can use it o nthe m9040n. Do you think this would work? Also, can such an old PC (max RAM is 8GB) be able to upgrade to Windows 10 running 64bit OS? Can it be upgraded to use SSD drive?

Please let me know. Thanks!

Hello
if the problem is with the graphics card, it should work with the integrated display.
did you try?
The mentioned graphics card may not work, the power is probably insufficient
You may be able to install a classic sata SSD.
try to test the scan of this site:
For windows 10, you may encounter a lot of problems, do the test with another blank hard drive, if possible, in order to keep the original system, it will be easier if it does not work correctly!

@Prométhée,

I hope you do not mind me sending up information.

1) It had a GT 8400 card on a 300W PSU.

2) The HD 7770 is a 6 pin CPIe card, at 80W. The 300W does not have PCIe power.

3) You are correct, it has VGA, so I would recommend NO graphic card. See if it can boot Vista 32 bit.
