No errors. Recently upgraded to Windows 10-64. Still has original equipment, Phenom II X4 910 and 8gb ram. Computer will be used for audio editing and I was curious if the unit could benefit from a ram upgrade. If it could, can the unit handle
PC3-10666?

Hi,
1. The information says you can use 1333MHz modules but *DDR3-1333 modules run at 1066 MHz if three or more modules are installed.
2. Yes, this will improve but as mentioned above: un-noticeable.
Regards.

Hi,
The following link shows its specs:
http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01859815
For RAM,
- Four DDR3 DIMM (240-pin) sockets
- Supports 1 GB, 2 GB, and 4 GB DDR3 DIMMs per socket
- Supports Dual channel memory architecture
- Supported speeds
- PC3-10600 @ 1333 MHz*
- PC3-8500 @ 1066 MHz*DDR3-1333 modules run at 1066 MHz if three or more modules are installed.
- Non-ECC memory only, unbuffered
- Supports up to 16 GB on 64-bit PCs (DIMMs run at DDR3-1066)
- Supports up to 4 GB* on 32-bit PCs* Actual available memory may be less.
It is a 7 years old machine. Upgrading RAM may help but not much and un-noticeable for audio editing. It has a very slow HDD you may want to upgrade it to a faster HDD (at least 7200RPM and big cache) or even SSD.
Regards.

Thanks for the info, SSD is obviously in order.
I still have two specific questions.
1) I read the specs, my question on the memory is that will PC3-10666 work in the place of PC3-10600. Not much of the latter available.
2) when would 16gb of ram improve performance over 8gb, especially in this ancient unit? 🙂
Thanks
