Hello
I do not understand you give the reference of the module, where of what is already in place?
All we can tell you is what is mentioned in the documents

so in some cases if the module is a little different it doesn't work ..
It is hardly possible to certify whether a non-HP module will work!

 870-224 Product Specifications

  • Amount: 8 GB
  • Speed: PC4-17000 MB/s
  • Type: DDR4-2133

Odense2-K motherboard specifications.

  • Dual channel (one DIMM per channel) memory architecture
  • Two DDR4 UDIMM (288-pin) sockets
  • Supports the following:
    • PC4-17000 (DDR4-2133)
    • PC4-19200 (DDR4-2400) (with Pavilion Power chassis only)
  • Supports 4 GB and 8 GB UDIMMs
  • Supports up to 4 GB on 32-bit systems
    note:
32-bit systems cannot address a full 4.0 GB of memory.
  • Supports up to 16 GB (unbuffered) on 64-bit computers

Took your advice and run the CRUCIAL diagnose tool for upgrading ram. it claims that I can install 32 gigs of 2x16 on this computer. What gives .. When the specs only claim as others have also read that it can only run 2x8 for 16 gigs. I have seen some specks where it claims to have tested up to 64 gigs on a windows 64 upgrade. but would not use more than 32 .  Has the bios and revision changed so much that this computer can now run 32 gigs. someone needs to figure this mess out --- to many yes and no's for me on here. SO WHATS THE TRUTH  with an I7 7700 getting ready to be put in.

IT ALSO CLAIMS TO CALL FOR 2666 INSTEAD OF 2133 MHZ. SO WHATS GOING ON

To start with, you may not need 32 GB of memory.
You might have at least half unused, depending on what you do with the computer.
Then you have what is validated, tested by HP, most of the general public HP computers, except perhaps for the new GAMER PCs, are equipped with a maximum of 16gb!
But in some cases it is possible to install more ..
I don't know on what this Crucial basis, but probably about the capacity of the processor ..
in this connection you mention an i7 processor ..
off by following your indication the model found indicates an i5?

this question I put out there - because I didn't want to purchase something used with no return if it wouldn't work. the memory I am speaking of had on the packaging  designed for amd etc. etc. It was to go on an 870-224 motherboard. What I need to know is IS RAM of a DDR4 2133 OR 2666 - GOING TO LOOK OR FIT ANY DIFFERENT IN THIS COMPUTER. As of now it is running an i5 7400 - soon to install a i7 7770. IS ALL DDR4 RAM THE SAME  ???????   FIT

SO SORRY --- IT WAS  RUN WITH AN I5 7400 AT THE TIME THE SCAN WAS GOING ON. - SO IT STILL CLAIMED 32 GIGS OF 2X 16OF 2666- weird because I checked my card and it is running a 2666. don't know if they installed it or the previous owner did. I'll need to check and see if it is running that .

Well let me first say -- I am well aware that it is rare to need 32 gigs . but like most more  is better, -  if money is not an issue..... I just wanted to know if HP support changed the firmware - software - or bios so much over time that it can now run things it could not at it's beginning. And I do not care to come across rude , mean , or uncaring... It just seems to me HP doesn't do much more than build them and then forget them.  I almost feel that we all have to rely on word of mouth and trial and error from others to see how far these things can go. I thank everyone for their input and am most grateful

Hello
sorry @CHIPSTER64  I just saw your messages today
I'm confused because I don't understand everything you are saying here
I think you have answered the upgrade question, with the HP documents available for your computer!
And you seem to indicate that this computer is used, that the hardware could have already been replaced?
As for the speed like I said HP mentions this
DDR4-2133
Now you may have the 2666, either an HP error, or it can happen, hp to install another frequency, or the previous user that I may not know
Either, the speed will be correct, the module operates at the correct frequency.
But sometimes the module is recognized, it works, but at the lowest supported frequency, do you understand?
