I volunteered to replace the dead HDD in my neighbor's computer. During the process I seem to have disconnected the power switch connector and I can't find where it goes. It is a twisted pair with a 2 postion harness connector. HELP!!!

A lot of research went into pulling up the service manual and giving you the required information based on your first post. I gave you the information absed on your first post.

Good Day. A warm welcome to the HP community. I reviewed the case relating to information about the power connector of the computer which got lost in a maze while replacing the hard drive. I will be delighted to assist you here.
Superb description, brilliant troubleshooting and terrific observations made before posting. Kudos to you for that. 🙂
To assist you with accurate information I would require more information regarding this.
- Did you check the service and upgrade manual of the computer to replace the hard drive?
- Did you check the motherboard specifications and the product speculations?
- What power switch or connector are you exactly speaking about? Is it the power connector (are you speaking about white plastic power connector) that connects to the hard drive?
- For now, I will be sending you the complete service and upgrade manual http://hp.care/2eTm807 on how to replace and upgrade components for this computer. It helps you to replace the hard drive with step by step instructions and illustrations.
- Please check pages 2 to 14 for assistance on how to remove the hard drive and replace it correctly.
- It gives information on how to replace DVD drive, memory modules, hard drive, and other cards like the graphics card and other components.
- Also, read the manual completely for replacing other parts and to find the power connector that you are speaking about.
- It is very useful and should resolve the issue for you as it has clear instructions and illustrations.

Please perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. The trick is to remain patient, Going by your technical expertise and competence I am sure you will be able to perform these steps without breaking a sweat. 🙂
