Hi @Ayush14m

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I'm really sorry you're dealing with such persistent black screen interruptions—it’s exhausting when the system seems to shut down visually but stays powered. Since you've already ruled out software and reset everything, let's focus on deeper system-level and hardware-related possibilities.

Here’s a structured approach to help isolate and reduce the issue:

1. Adjust Sleep and Power Settings

Black screens during wake-up often stem from how the system transitions between power states.

  • Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Change plan settings > Advanced settings
  • Under Sleep, set:
    • Sleep after: Never
    • Hibernate after: Never
  • Under Display, set:
    • Turn off display after: Never (for testing)
  • Under PCI Express > Link State Power Management: Set to Off
  • Under Processor power management, set Minimum processor state to 100%

This forces consistent power behavior and may prevent the system from entering unstable states.

2. Disable Fast Startup

Fast Startup can cause display initialization issues after sleep.

  • Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do
  • Click Change settings that are currently unavailable
  • Uncheck Turn on fast startup
  • Save changes and restart

3. Test with External Display

Connect an external monitor via HDMI or USB-C.

  • If the external display works during a black screen event, it suggests the internal panel or cable may be intermittently failing.
  • If both screens go black, the issue may lie in GPU or power delivery.

4. Run HP UEFI Diagnostics

This bypasses Windows and checks hardware directly.

  • Power off the laptop.
  • Press Esc repeatedly at startup, then press F2.
  • Run System Tests > Extensive Test, especially Display, Graphics, and Motherboard.

5. Lock Refresh Rate and Disable VRR

Variable refresh rate can cause flickering or blanking during tab switches.

  • Go to Settings > System > Display > Advanced Display Settings
  • Set the Refresh Rate to a fixed value (e.g., 60Hz or 144Hz)
  • Go to Graphics Settings, disable Variable Refresh Rate

6. Observe Thermal and Power Behavior

Use HP Gaming Hub or HWInfo64 to monitor GPU and CPU voltage, temperature, and load.

  • If black screens correlate with sudden drops or spikes in voltage, it may point to unstable power delivery or VRM behavior.

You’ve already done a tremendous amount of troubleshooting, and your instincts about this being beyond software are likely accurate. Let me know how the system responds to these adjustments, and we’ll keep working through it together.
