I realise this is an old thread but still felt the need to chime in...
This weekend I have attempted to install the MSI N750TI TF 2GD5/OC video card (the exact same board as Ken Allen in post #5) without success. My HP computer would continually lock up at the HP splash screen and would not let me enter the startup menu to troubleshoot in "safe mode" and make changes. My computer is currently running with the original failed graphics card installed and device manager showing "standard VGA graphics" as my display adapter.
My particular MSI video card did not have a dual bios switch even though there was documentation stating there was and where to find it. So I called MSI customer support and had a tech rep look in his database by serial number if my card should have the bios switch. He stated that the bios switch was only produced with the earlier boards and was later phased out and that my video card had firmware that was designed to "autodetect" which type bios my computer was using. I was then told if the board wasn't detecting my legacy bios to contact the MoBo manufacture and work out a solution with them. Nice.....
Reading through this thread others have had success with this MSI version video card using a Chicago mobo but what is the rest of the story? What version bios, what processor/LGA socket type, what chipset? If someone had success with my exact mobo I would really appreciate knowing how you got it installed.
As KPH_71 posted in message 12..." I posted about it in the MSI forum, and was told "The problem is not GOP or legacy bios but the need for a ME8 firmware including bios to run a GTX7xx on a socket 1155 based system. If HP can't supply such you will never be able to run a GeForce GTX7xx or later in your system". So now it's because I'm running an LGA 1155 socket style and I need my mobo flashed with new firmware? Why does this have to be so difficult?
Maybe it's not difficult at all and my new video card is bad. No way to verify unless I take it to a computer repair shop. It was ordered through Amazon and the box was not shrink wrapped so I probably got a previously returned item. At least Amazon will refund the full price.
As Big_Dave suggested, maybe I need to look at the Saphire Radeon R9 series cards as they support both legacy and UEFI (switchable). They also have some video cards that are legacy bios supported only. Hmm......
Well, time to end this as I didn't plan to ramble this long. Hope it helps someone else.

I too had the same problem with my older HP Pavillion and an MSI 750Ti card without the bios switch. However I found that if you press f12 at switch on I get a screen which shows Network Boot in the bottom right hand corner. Don't do anything and after a couple of bleeps over the next couple of minutes it goes to another screen which shows it trying to start in PXE mode. Leave this to run and after a minute or two it goes into legacy mode and loads up the normal Windows startup screen. This is a longer startup but has worked every time for me. One thing to remember though and that is everytime the computer needs to do a restart (after an update for example) then you need to ready to press f12.
