When turning on the computer a pop-up tells me I need a new Smart Adapter. I read the forum for an answer and it seems many others are having this same issue and even when purchasing a new adapter, the pop-up still occurs. Do I really need a new adapter? Has anyone figured out how to get rid of this pop-up?

Welcome to the HP Forums 🙂
I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers.
As I understand there's an error message - "Please connect a higher capacity Smart AC Adapter.",
No worries, as I'll be glad to help you, that said, I'll need a few more details to dissect your concern & provide an accurate solution:
Did you know that this message means that your adapter does not have enough voltage to power your notebook PC?
The reason and symptoms are mentioned below:
If the size of the power adapter that you are attempting to use with your notebook PC is:
-
too small – . The battery light
blinks rapidly 8 times and a notification message that reads The output power of the HP Smart AC Adapter connected to your computer is insufficient. Please connect a higher capacity AC adapter. displays in the bottom-right corner of the screen.
For example, attempting to use a power adapter designed for an HP Mini PC on a regular size notebook PC may display this error message because it will not deliver sufficient voltage to power the regular size HP Notebook PC. Please use the power adapter that came with your notebook PC. If you are using the original adapter and still getting the error message - you need a replacement adapter, please see HP Notebook PCs - Ordering an HP Certified Replacement Part.
Alternatively, you may Contact HP to order a replacement:

I am in receipt of your reply message. And according to what I am reading.... "If you are using the original adapter and still getting the error message - you need a replacement adapter." So, I need a replacement adapter, right? Yet if you keep reading about the problem, it then says this...."To resolve this issue, download and install the following SoftPaq: SP82590 File Download" Being a novice, I am confused. Do I not need a new adapter or not? Or is the download and install of the SoftPaq the answer to my problem? I appreciate being able to communicate with a forum, but I don't know enough about what I am reading to trust I what I am doing. Is it possible to get a phone number or chat person to help me?

Hi, I am having the same problem with my new hp envy. From the first time I plugged in the included charger, I got the alert to "Please connect a higher capacity Smart AC Adapter for full performance."
How were you able to get in contact to have a replacement sent to you?
Thanks so much

Hi @Jeet_singh,
I have just the same problem as the user you have just responded to, how do you advise I proceed with obtaining the original part that should have been included ab initio. This device is barely two months old and I have just found this thread.
