The specifications for my HP 410-009 desktop indicate I have a Shave-HSW motherboard which in turn has "One M.2 socket 3, key M" expansion slot. I do not see this slot anywhere on the board. Can anyone suggest why am I confused?

Hi:
The way HP describes expansion slots is a bit of a misnomer.
HP Slimline 410-009 Desktop PC Product Specifications | HP® Customer Support
Expansion slots assumes that there is nothing in the slot at the present time.
The single M.2 slot your PC has is only for a Wi-Fi adapter and that slot is currently occupied by your PC's Wi-Fi adapter.
So, if you are thinking of upgrading to a solid-state drive, your only option would be to replace the 3.5" mechanical hard drive with a 2.5" SATA SSD, and you will also need a 3.5" to 2.5" hard drive caddy to properly mount the smaller drive inside your PC.
