Hi,
I attempted to upgrade my memory from 4gb to 8. The machine has 4 sockets and I was able to find 2 sets of 4gb. The problem is 2 of the 4 sockets are unresponsive, the computer won't even boot up, but works fine if I only use 2 sockets which gives me 8gb. Why won't the other sockets work (the beige ones in the pic? I've never used them before.

Your HP TouchSmart 610-1030f only supports modules made with a specific type of chip. Memory is not off-the-shelf.
Where/what was the source of the new 4GB modules? Are these specified to that motherboard?
Sourcing guaranteed modules from Crucial
PS<> Remember to power-off prior to any tests.
Try the working modules in the other slots. Try 1 module in each socket.
