HP ENVY Phoenix Desktop - 860-180st CTO
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have an HP desktop that I want to upgrade to Windows 11. MS PC Health Check lists that my CPU, i7-6700k, is an approved CPU type, albeit with some restrictions as it seems conditionally supported, I have Secure Boot enabled and the TPM 2.0 is ready from UEFI  settings (verified via tpm.msc). I so not see what else I can do to install Win11. Is it that the CPU is an issue? Is there a different CPU that can be installed? I do not want to have to buy another PC.

@badbigdad,

Welcome to our HP User Forum!

Unfortunately, your HP ENVY Phoenix Desktop - 860-180st CTO's chipset (Z170) as per https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04829055, is not compatible with any processors (8th gen and up) which, according to Microsoft, are W11 approved: https://www.cpu-upgrade.com/mb-Intel_(chipsets)/Z170.html.

The fastest CPU that can be fitted in your desktop is the i7-7700K.

However, you can easily upgrade to Windows 11 following @Paul_Tikkanen's directions: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-System-and-Recovery/HP-Notebook-Update-Windows-10-1....

Hope this is helpful.

Kind Regards,
