Hello. I can see the 8GB RAM I have is of sk hynix 8GB 1Rx8 PC4-2666V-Sa-11. I am struggling to find another one like this to boost the speed, other than scamazon or ebay. Is it still resourcable?
Alternatively I found Corsair 16GB Vengeance DDR4 SODIMM 2666MHz Laptop Memory 2x8GB, which is a bit different: The original has a 1Rx8 module but the Corsair comes with two 2Rx8. Could that be a problem if I replace the original with two new ones? The manual specifics don't say anything about this aspect.
I think the operating system should not matter, I plan to convert the pc into Linux soon.

Hi:
I'd get one of these and add it into the empty slot.
Crucial 8GB DDR4-3200 SODIMM | CT8G4SFRA32A | Crucial UK
The memory will automatically bridge to 2666 Mhz.

Having another look, their 2666 has been discontinued anyway.
What is the CL number? I don't see it in the specifics for the product you suggested.
And won't two different brands cause any issues? I thought they should be of the same make.

The CL number is the cas latency.
The Crucial memory part number has a CL of 22, which is the standard timing for DDR4-3200 memory. It's listed at the bottom of the web page JEDEC 22-22-22.
That specification will automatically bridge to DDR4-2666 CL 19.
I've never had a problem mixing memory brands as long as they should be compatible with each other.
If you want to buy 2 x 8 GB of the Crucial memory, that would be fine too.
I would want to try one first to save money and one buy a second one in the event it didn't work with the memory HP installed.
That's assuming it's not difficult to replace the memory.

OK, since the price is approx equivalent per unit (2 items cost about 2x of one) I'll try the single one first. Not sure about the delivery charges thought. I am trying to be economical while not hesitating to pay a proper price for a genuine item, hence going with the manufacturer instead of market platforms.
Can I also ask about the nvme hard drive? My PC has a hdd which seems to be developing issues. I can replace it with a Sata ssd, 2.5 in, but I would also like to put a nvme card into it. Having two operating systems in one machine, one on each drive would be nice.
I found this: will it be OK? Not sure about the generation, what generation slot is my PC for this kind of hard drive. This ssd is of the 4th gen. When I was replacing ssd in a Dell laptop, it listed the gen3 slot so I got a gen3 ssd. But I cannot tell with my HP desktop:
1TB Corsair MP600 CORE XT, M.2 (2280) PCIe 4.0 (x4) NVMe SSD, 5000MB/s Read, 3500MB/s Write, 700k/900k IOPS

I was under the impression that shipping was free.
I have ordered from Crucial in the past and don't recall having to pay for shipping.
You can buy the same memory part number on Amazon as well via the Crucial store.
Any brand NVMe SSD should work.
Your PC's PCIe NVMe slot is Gen 3.0.
While a Gen 4.0 SSD will work, it will not run at its maximum advertised read/write speeds from the Gen 3 slot.
This table shows the maximum transfer speeds each PCIe slot generation can provide:

I don't believe that the PC supports operating systems on two drives.
One serves as the boot drive and the other drive would be used for storage only.
I believe that if there is an OS on the SATA drive, the PC will always want to boot from the SATA drive first and not the NVMe SSD.
So, you would have to experiment with that. because I don't know anything other than no one seems to be able to do that with notebook PC's.
Never had a need to install two operating systems on different drives.
I've done it with two operating systems on one drive for fun, but that was many years ago and I don't remember how to do it anymore.
No doubt there are plenty of YouTube videos for things like that.

Thanks a lot.
Firstly: I don't trust Amazon anymore with anything electronic. Neither ebay. Hence my reluctance to buy any computer elements from them. Too much fake stuff from China. But that is another story.
Secondly: thanks for clarifying the 3rd generation. I'll adjust my search to that.
Thirdly: I plan to convert this pc into Linux and grub settings will allow me to decide at booting what system I will go with. I have done that with my Dell system and some usb on the go with Windows worked (the cheaper ones) some didn't. I don't mind to go to Bios every time to push the desired drive up to boot from, in case the grub doesn't launch the alternative system. It never failed to launch Linux in these settings. Linux will be my main OS and using Windows only if needed for particular software.
I'll try and see. At worst I can always do it as you say: use sata for storage (convenient, not needing to plug an external drive in) or do the same with a usb having Windows installed, but the main hard drive will be Linux.
Or, since ssd sata drives are faster than hdd, and Linux is less demanding on processing power, I might put Linux on sata, if the system prefers that, and put my existing small nvme (that came with Dell laptop) into the nvme slot. The Win licence might work, might not, I have a spare OEM licence waiting to be activated. 🙂
Re gen3 nvme, I don't see many of Gen3, Even this one which I thought was Gen3 is of Gen4, but cheaper than the previous one. Will it be OK? https://uk.crucial.com/ssd/p3-plus/CT1000P3PSSD8?bs=CT1000P3PSSD8
That's quite a discount there, I wonder why that is?

You're very welcome.
The Crucial Gen 4 SSD would be fine, and it is a very good deal.
I'd get that one.
If you want a gen 3, the Crucial P3 would be fine but right now, it is considerably more expensive than the P3+.

In the USA, the P3 is fairly reasonable.
