xw4600
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I recently saw that my RAID1 showed the first disk 0 with an error. I bought a new drive to replace it (WD 1TB drive exactly like the failing drive). Si I shut the system down and replaced the bad drive with the new one right out of the ant-static package. Should I have made it active and formatted it before installing it? Once I had the new drive in, I started the system and went right into the RAID bios (Ctl-I). From there I was totally lost as to what exactly to do step-by-step. Long story short, I lost both drives and had to reinstall Windows 7 Ultimate from scratch. I did lose some data, but it could have been worse I guess. Is there anywhere that explains in detail what to do and exactly how to do it as if it was written for novice user?

if you take the time to READ the intel raid documentation FIRST and follow the generic directions below (some RST setups may have specific additional steps required)  you would not have trashed the existing raid

  1. Turn on the system.
  2. Click Start.
  3. Click All Programs.
  4. Click Intel.
  5. Click Intel® Rapid Storage Technology.

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000005775/technologies.html

  1. Click Rebuild to another disk.
  2. Select the replacement hard drive and click Rebuild.

Additional instructions for performing a rebuild from the Option ROM are available in the User Guides.

This information is very much appreciated and thank you for this! When I bought the HP xw4600 it came with Windows 7 Ultimate and NO Intel RST installed. So I had no idea it even existed! I'm going to download it (IF I can figure out which version to download) and install it! Now I have to wonder and ask if I can pre-prepare another HDD connected via USB, the same HDD as the main (ID 0) and make it a RAID drive just in case I need to hot swap the drives!?

the xw4600 uses a x38 chipset, and can use RST v10.8 which nowadays is hard to find the latest version is at the link below

last, it's possible to modify the bios to add xeon cpu support, if you pm me i can provide a pre modded bios

and you can buy a  Xeon X3363 chip that has had the necessary mods to it for a drop in replacement (no need to mod the cpu socket)

I was able to find, download and install version 15.9.8.1052 and it works and runs in the background, BUT the email part in Preferences fails with my gmail account plus the hot swap option has no check box to enable it. I sent a message to Intel but no reply. Going to leave the CPU the way it is, but thanks anyways.

The link to RST v10.8 does not work!

v15 of the rst software will not work as expected on a x38 chipset with the ich9r rom please search for and download a v10 rst package
