The HP 2310 monitor randomly turns off and on during normal use. The screen goes black for a few seconds and then turns back on. remains blank or displays no image even though it is powered on.
Symptoms
- Monitor screen remains black or blank, monitor goes off and on.
- Power LED does not turn on.
- Power LED is on, but no image is displayed.
- Monitor does not display the computer startup screen or Windows desktop.
- No on-screen message appears when the video cable is disconnected.

- Computers connected using HDMI, DisplayPort, or USB Type-C video connections
The issue can be caused by one or more of the following:
- No power supplied to the monitor.
- Faulty AC outlet or power cord.
- Loose or damaged video cable.
- Damaged video port on the computer.
- Unsupported display resolution.
- Faulty monitor or computer video hardware.
Troubleshooting Steps
1: Verify Monitor Power
- Turn off the computer.
- Disconnect all external devices except the keyboard and mouse.
- Disconnect the monitor's video cable.
- Ensure the monitor power cable is securely connected to a working AC outlet.
- Press the monitor power button.
- If the power light does not turn on:
- Verify the AC outlet is working.
- Connect the monitor to another power outlet.
- Try a different HP power cord.
- If the power light still remains off, the monitor may require repair or replacement.
- If the power light turns on, continue to the next step.
2: Check the Monitor Display
- Connect the video cable between the computer and monitor.
- Turn on both the computer and monitor.
- Wait approximately 10 seconds.
- Disconnect the video cable while the monitor remains powered on.
- If the monitor displays a "No Signal" or similar on-screen message, the display panel is functioning correctly. Continue with video connection troubleshooting.
- If the monitor remains blank, continue to the next step.
3: Inspect the Video Connection
- Disconnect the video cable from both the monitor and computer.
- Check the HDMI, DisplayPort, or USB Type-C ports for physical damage.
- If another compatible video port is available, connect using that port.
- Replace the video cable with a known working cable.
- Use cable adapters only when necessary.
If the issue persists, continue with further testing.
4: Verify the Display Resolution
If the monitor displays the startup screen but not Windows:
- Turn on the computer.
- Press the F4 key repeatedly when the first startup screen appears.
- After Windows loads:
- Right-click the desktop.
- Select Display settings.
- Choose the monitor's recommended display resolution.
Note:
- If the recommended resolution is unavailable, temporarily select 1024 × 768.
- Install the latest video driver for the computer if additional display resolutions are required.
After applying the new resolution:
- Select Keep changes if the display appears correctly.
- Restart the computer and verify that Windows displays normally.
5: Test the Monitor with Another Computer
- Connect the monitor to a different computer using a different video cable.
- Verify whether the monitor displays normally.
- If the monitor works on another computer, the original computer's graphics hardware or video driver is likely causing the issue.
- If the monitor remains blank on another computer, the monitor likely requires repair or replacement.
Check
- Disconnect USB drives, memory cards, and other external devices before troubleshooting.
- Use the monitor's recommended display resolution whenever possible for optimal image quality.
- A monitor that displays an on-screen message after disconnecting the video cable generally indicates the display panel is functioning correctly, and the issue is likely related to the video connection or computer configuration.
