- HP Desktop PCs – Invalid Signature Detected. Check Secure Bo...
The HP desktop starts, it displays the Invalid signature detected. Check Secure Boot Policy in Setup error on a red screen, preventing Windows from booting normally due to a BIOS or Secure Boot configuration issue that may require BIOS recovery or rollback.
Symptoms
- Red screen displaying Invalid signature detected. Check Secure Boot Policy in Setup.
- Windows fails to boot normally.
- Selecting Apply Defaults and Exit in BIOS temporarily allows Windows to start.
- The error reappears after every restart or shutdown.
- Disabling Secure Boot or enabling Legacy Boot may not resolve the issue.
Troubleshooting steps
1: Restore BIOS Default Settings
- Turn on the computer.
- Press F10 repeatedly to enter the BIOS Setup Utility.
- Select the File tab.
- Click Apply Defaults and Exit.
- Save the changes and allow the computer to restart.
2: Recover or Roll Back the BIOS
If the error returns after every restart:
- Identify the exact HP computer model.
- Perform a BIOS Recovery or BIOS Rollback using the HP BIOS recovery procedure for your system.
- Restart the computer and verify whether Windows boots normally.
If restoring BIOS defaults resolves the issue only temporarily, the BIOS settings may not be retained between restarts. In this situation, BIOS recovery or rollback is the recommended next troubleshooting step according to HP support guidance.
