If your HP desktop computer fails to turn on, start, or boot, follow the detailed troubleshooting steps for desktop boot below:
Initial Precautions and Hardware Reset

Verify Power Supply: Ensure that the power cable is properly connected and the power outlet is functional.

Perform a Hard Reset:
- Turn off the computer.
- Disconnect the power cable.
- Remove all external devices (printers, external hard drives, USB drives) except for the mouse, keyboard, and monitor.
- Press and hold the power button for about 20 seconds.
- Reconnect the power cable and turn the computer back on using the power button.
Diagnosis and Next Steps
- Does the Computer Turn On?
- If No: The computer may not be receiving power. Consider setting up a repair.
- If Yes: Proceed to reconnect external devices one by one to determine which might be causing the problem.
Hardware Test and Windows Not Starting
- Run Diagnostic Tests:
- Turn off the computer.
- Turn it back on and repeatedly press esc until a menu appears.
- Press f2 to access the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI).
