If your HP Desktop PC is displaying a black screen, there could be several reasons for this issue.

Here are some generic troubleshooting steps  if your computer has a black screen you can take to try and resolve the problem:

  1. Power Off and Disconnect:

    • Completely turn off your computer and disconnect the power cord from the desktop. Wait for about 5 seconds before reconnecting the power cord.

  2. Check External Connections:

    • Ensure that all external cables, including the monitor and power cables, are securely connected. Check for any loose or damaged cables.

  3. Perform a Hard Reset:

    • Disconnect the power cable and remove any peripheral connections (like USB drives or external monitors).
    • Press and hold the power button on the desktop for about 10-15 seconds. This will discharge any residual power in the system.
    • Reconnect the monitor and power cable, and then turn on the computer.

  4. Reset the CMOS:

    • If resetting the computer doesn't help, reset the CMOS. This step might vary depending on the model, so refer to the HP support page for specific instructions for your computer model.
    • For general steps, turn off the computer, open it to locate the CMOS battery, remove it, press the power button for 60 seconds to drain any remaining power, reinstall the CMOS battery, and then restart the computer.

  5. Check for Beep Sounds or Indicator Lights:

    • Listen for any beep sounds when you start the computer, as they can indicate hardware issues.
    • Observe any LED lights on the computer, especially around the power button. Flashing lights can also indicate specific issues depending on the pattern.

  6. BIOS Recovery:

    • If the above steps do not resolve the issue, try recovering the BIOS using a key press combination. Turn off the computer, then hold down the "Windows + b" keys while pressing the power button for 2-3 seconds. Release the power button but continue pressing the Windows + b keys.
    • The power light should remain on, and you may hear beeping. If successful, an HP BIOS Update screen will display, starting the BIOS recovery automatically.

If necessary, you can also create a recovery USB drive to recover the BIOS. Remember that handling internal components can be delicate work, so if you are unsure or uncomfortable, professional assistance is recommended.
