Hello,

We have a major issue with almost 5 PCs
Model: HP HP Z1 Entry Tower G6  [Personal Information Removed]  all running with a new SATA Crucial SSD
Issue: the disk is always 100% without doing any intensive activities

We had made almost troubleshooting steps like (Update windows to the latest, updating all drivers, and Disabling antivirus,....)

I'm wondring if this releated to the model specific or it is a Driver or firmare bug.

Anyone can help or advise to fix this issue.

Reagdrs,

Peter Henry

There are a lot of good suggestions here.  Do not download anything there,  just read for info.

https://www.avg.com/en/signal/fix-100-disk-usage-windows

I assume you have at least 16gb memory and the SSD has %15 free space minimum

Was the SSD cloned from the old boot driive?  If not then item 6 and 7 in above article might apply . A sync of imap mailboxes may take a while to complete.  Just guessing.

a bios update was released 22 Aug 2022

https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/swdetails/hp-z1-entry-tower-g6/34934224/model/21000...

I looked through the release information for all 10 bios updates and did not seen anything specific to SSD problems. There were a lot of releases

Thanks Beemer for your reply here,

Yeah, the machines run with 16GB and have a good free space.

we had tried almost the available solution except the Windows Reset. and we already applied all updates from Microsoft and HP as well and still, the hard disk is suffering.

hi

How to identify what is slowing down the computer

@PeterHenry7  have you checked / identified what is hogging the SSD
click on the Disk tab, in order to make sure that all the most greedy processes are shown
this might help you identify the source

Hello Prométhée,

There is no specific application that takes disk usage. it is randomly and most of the time is disk is 100 and the  process has a small value.

If you reach 100% use it is because there are at least one or two, maybe more, added together, which means that, if not more, a hardware problem
This type of problem happened frequently with a mechanical HDD, it must be less frequent with an SSD, more than faster

See percentage utilization, rather than read/write speed

with nothing open, then several open applications which monopolizes the most it is with the antivirus research, but max reaches 16%

Please verify that you do not have the ahcistor bug

run regedit and search for MSISupported and make sure it is set to 0

A search it not a good procedure as there may be many occurrences and some may not apply

Best to to read the recommended action

https://www.troublefixers.org/windows/how-to-fix-100-percent-disk-usage-on-windows-10/458/

There is also the possibility of a firmware problem in the SSD

I assume you obtained M.2 type SSD.

Can you provide a URL to the device or give the exact model?

i had reinstalled a fresh OS on one of them with a SATA SSD Crucial "CT480BX500SSD1" it works fine for a couple of days then the issue happened again.

Bring up "indexing options" and verify that indexing is complete

BeemerBiker_0-1664806083667.png

If you have NAS included in indexing it may take  a while to complete.  A fresh OS install usually requires a lot updates.

You can also bring up the task manager "performance" and it's "resource  monitor" and see if the disk activity is associated with the network.

What is the size of the paging and swap file?  The following is used on a system with 64gb memory. Perhaps your 16gb  is not sufficient (just a guess)
