HP ENVY 750-427c
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello, earlier this afternoon I hopped on my computer and began to go about my day around 10 minutes after turning my computer my clumsy hand knocked over a glass of water that spilled onto the top of my desktop which is under my desk and some slight water got onto the cords that go into my computer but not something drastic.

A few minutes later I was cleaning it up and my desktop power button began to flash white but with a sequence of beeps meaning something was wrong so I decided to shut the computer completely off. I then rebooted the computer and it seemed to be fine once more, it was checking my drives and such and then it took me to this old looking screen which prompted me to “repair/install windows” which I clicked on repair and I let it sit there for around 20 minutes and it didn’t realistically do anything so I decided to shut my PC off. I tried once more and instead of slightly turning on and bringing me to a normal screen it would not display anything on my monitor and it would rather just beep the same sequence from earlier. 3 long beeps with the flashing power button then the 2 short beeps following that. It would then stop after awhile but would still be flashing the white power button symbol. Any ideas of how can I fix/repair this? I spend quite a lot of time on my computer and it’s generally what I live off of at the moment and it sucks that this happened today.

To anyone out there with knowledge please let me know ASAP, it would be greatly appreciated

Software failures will generate on-screen messages, usually about not finding an Operating System or not being able to boot. When the screen is blank, the PC is experiencing a major hardware failure.
--------------------
If the CapsLock key is blinking or there is beeping, read this HP information on the likely cause of the hardware failure based on the blinking or beeping patters.

For desktops, this HP thread describes the different blink and beep codes: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/bph07107?jumpid=reg_r1002_usen_c-001_title_r0001
--------------------
To determine the cause with hardware failures, you have to be able run diagnostics. We have no way of accessing your PC from here, so we can not do that for you. You have to do it yourself.

You do this by pressing the Esc key repeatedly when rebooting and then, when the HP Startup Menu appears, selecting Diagnostics (usually F2) and letting it run.

If it is NOT possible to run diagnostics, or if that does not work, then there is NOTHING more you can do by yourself -- and there is NOTHING we can do because we have no way of accessing your PC from here to run diagnostics or repair hardware.

You will need to have the PC physically examined in a service facility by folks that can run their own diagnostics to determine what is wrong with it.

--------------------
If your PC is still under the original one-year HP warranty, or if you have purchased an extended warranty from HP and this is still valid, then having HP do this is an inexpensive option for you. In that case, you should contact HP Customer Support to see about having it repaired or replaced under warranty.

To contact HP Support see the following link to create yourself a case number:
Step 1. Here is the link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp
Step 2. Enter Product number or select to auto detect
Step 3. Scroll down to "Still need help? Complete the form to select your contact options"

--------------------
If your PC is no longer under warranty, then it will cost you up front to have HP examine your PC. If you want to do that, you will have to contact an HP Repair or Service Center to see if they can examine the PC to determine the cause(s) of the problems, if it can be repaired, and an estimate of the repair costs.

Since you live in the U.S., here is a link to the HP Service Repair Centers:
https://www.service-center-locator.com/hp-hewlett-packard/hp-hewlett-packard-service-center.htm

If that link does not provide the results you want then use the main HP link:

Good Luck

Hello!

When I turn on my computer it doesn’t even show a screen onto my monitor it just starts beeping with the white LED 3 long times then 2 short white LED’s. I believe it is involved with a possible memory error and I need some tips on what to do if that’s indeed the fact. All my fans run when the computer turns on so I know the motherboard isn’t fried, I tried taking out the RAM sticks and putting it back in alongside the CMOS battery.

The only issue I’m concerned with is that the manual says all the long beeps would show a red LED on the power button but every sequence was white. This computer is decently old but it’s confusing as there’s not much information of it online.

I will definitely go about possibly sending it to a repair center if I can’t find a fix myself, glad someone responded to this!

According to the HP link I provided you, a 3.2 beep combination means a controller chip on motherboard has failed -- and that is not something you can fix.  It would require replacing the motherboard and that is not something you can do.

So there’s nothing I can do? I thought it was RAM/Memory related not a controller on the motherboard. Also, you can’t replace a motherboard?

@HelpMyPC101

IT's not a memory error that can be fixed simply by replacing the memory stick(s) -- it is a controller chip failing on the motherboard.

HP does not sell new motherboards and you would have to go online and do searches, and anything you find will be USED and liable NOT to work.

There are additional issues you will face if you replace the motherboard: the licensed Windows version that came preloaded on your laptop is an HP OEM Version -- and that license is tied to the original motherboard, not to the PC owner. When you toss away that motherboard, you toss away the license -- and HP will not provide you a second license. Since the versions of Windows you can buy will not activate with the embedded HP OEM license, you will have to buy a Retail version of Windows, and a license to go with it. You will then have to replace the installed Windows version on your laptop with the version you bought and license it. We are not able to assist in any of that work.

The bottom line is the process is a lot more difficult than simply swapping one part for another.
